May & June Classes 2019

Smartphone & Tablet (Androids) - Mondays: 9:30 - 11:30, 5/13, 5/20, 6/3, 6/10, Cost $40

Class Description:  During this 4-week Android Smart Phone & Tablet class you will learn the basic features of your Smartphone & Tablet with emphasis on communicating with family & friends using your Android devices. We will cover email, texting, Skype, taking & sharing photos and videos. The class will cover the features of the built-in apps, downloading and updating apps from the app store, surfing the net, backing up your data & wireless operations. Note:  This class is NOT for iPhone or iPads.   See iPad & iPhone class below.

Prerequisite:  Desire to learn how to use your Android Smart Phone and/or Tablet

What to Bring to Class:  The classroom has wireless Internet connection and students are required to bring their Android devices for hands-on instruction. Instructor: Irv Rudderow

 

iPad & iPhone - Thursdays: 9:30 – 11:30 AM, 6/6 - 6/27, Cost $40

Class Description:  During this 4-week iPad & iPhone class you will learn the basic features of the iPad & iPhone with emphasis on communicating with family & friends using your Apple devices. We will cover email, texting, Facetime, Skype, and taking & sharing photos and videos.  The class will cover the features of the built-in apps, downloading and updating apps from the apps store, surfing the net, backing up your data to iCloud, and wireless operations.

Prerequisite:  Desire to learn how to use your iPhone and/or iPad

What to Bring to Class:  The classroom has wireless Internet connection and students are required to bring their iPhone or iPad for hands-on instruction.  You must bring your APPLE ID AND APPLE PASSWORD.

Google Maps - Thursday: 1:00 – 3:00 PM,  5/16, Cost $10

Class Description:  Google Maps is a powerful tool that is available on your desktop, smart phone and/or tablets.  Learn how to use Google Maps for calculating a route from any location to where you want to go.  It can be used like a GPS.  Also discussed will be 2 other neat features - satellite view and street view.  Additionally you will be shown how find information about businesses including websites, phone numbers and hours of operation.

What to Bring to Class:  If you use a laptop, tablet or smartphone bring it.  If you use a mouse bring your mouse pad.

Solving Spreadsheet Problems-

 Monday: 1:00 – 3:00 PM May 13 & 20, Cost $20

Class Description:  The class is designed to help you solve your problems using spreadsheets.  The class will use the software that the students use which can be either desktop Excel, LibreOffice Calc, Excel for iPad or Google Sheets.  The instructor will contact each student before the class to ascertain the issues the student want to discuss during the class.

What to Bring to Class:  If you have a laptop with spreadsheet software bring it.  If you use a mouse, bring it and your mouse pad. 

Prerequisite:  Basic working knowledge of your computer and/or devices to be used

Basic Computer File Management

Thursday: 1:00 – 3:00 AM June 13, Cost $10

Class Description:  Do you have the problem – where did I put it?  It happens to us on the computer too.  This one session class will cover the basics of how to create folders, move files and organize your computer or laptop.  When we finish you will have a better understanding of file organization and how to find your files on the computer.

 What to Bring to Class:  If you use a laptop, bring it.  If you use a mouse, bring it and your mouse pad.

Cutting the Cable Cord

Monday 9:30 - 11:30 AM: June 17 - Cost $10

 Class Description:  This class will discuss the various ways to view programing on your TV without being connected to a cable company provided TV package. This will include: Streaming subscription services that provide channels of content as well as broadcast networks & local channels such as Direct TV Now, Sling TV; Subscription streaming services for Movies/TV programs such as Netflix, Amazon Prime TV, HBO Go, and plug in TV interface devices, such as Apple TV, Chromecast, Roku, Amazon Fire TV Stick, etc. Considerations should be given to the users connection speed to the internet, the number of users, what and when you like to watch TV, Wi-Fi capability and age/capability of the household TV sets.

What to Bring to Class:  Just yourself and some understanding of the above considerations

Moving Photos from Camera- Monday 1:00 - 3:00pm, 6/17 & 6/24- Cost $20

Class Description:  This class is a basic tutorial on the camera application in your Android smartphone and how to take photos and modify them with photo editing apps.  The first session will cover the basic capabilities of the Android camera app. Discussion will include the various settings available in the app such as Auto, Panorama, Pro, Continuous and Sport. The various effects like Negative, Sepia and Grayscale will be reviewed. The second session will cover how to enhance the photo.  Gallery is an app that most phones have installed from the factory.  It allows modifications such as crop, rotate, effects, emojis and line drawing capabilities.  Once the desired photo has been finalized, Gallery provides ways to share the photo with others.  Free photo editing apps will also be discussed.

Note: This class is not for iPhone or iPads.

What to Bring to Class:  The classroom has wireless Internet connection and students are required to bring in their Android devices for hands-on instruction.

Fix It Fridays- Every Friday from 1 - 3pm. Walk-ins welcome! Seniors seeking assistance in computer software and/or hardware problems should drop by. Donations are appreciated.  All staff are volunteers.
