Innocent Classroom, Capstone Publishing, along with Custom Education Solutions, invites you to a morning celebrating diversity in children's literature.
Join us as award-winning author and founder of Innocent Classroom,
Alexs Pate, presents his new book, Being You. This book is rooted in his dreams that children see themselves in the literature they read. It acknowledges that we are all caught up together in a harsh system that labels and limits children, but it also lights a way out of it, encouraging children to be seen for who they really are—not just who they’re told to be—and challenges adults to respond with clear eyes.
Capstone will give a behind-the-scenes look at how a publishing company approaches the creation of culturally relevant literature, such as Being You, that provides mirrors and windows for students, as well as provide a sneak-peek at new characters and series currently in development.
Our team will offer strategies on evaluating classroom libraries and bookrooms for bias, as well as incorporating diversity into your balanced literacy resources.
Coffee and pastries will be provided.
