In the United Methodist Church, Confirmation refers to the intentional commitment that a person makes to respond to God's grace, publicly reaffirming their baptismal vows before the congregation. The focus of our weekend is to provide tools to youth that will help them understand their promise of Prayers, Presence, Gifts, Service, and Witness.
The focus of the retreat weekend will be enhanced with mini-workshops to address the importance of:
Learning the spiritual disciplines, like Prayer, in developing a converstaional relationship with God. Being Present in the life of the church. Exploring what the Bible says about Gifts, and why it's important to tithe as a joyful expression of faith.
Figuring out what talents God has given you, what you are passionate about, and how you can put them into the Service of others and reflecting the spirit of Jesus through your life as a Witness because of your faith.
Tour the World Methodist Museum where youth willl discover more about John Wesley, and the roots of United Methodism.
Visit the SEJ Heritage Center is a valuable opportunity for youth to get a better understanding of the polity of the United Methodist Church with an emphasis on the southeast.
TeamBuilding is a returning favorite activiity for youth to discover how working together to problem solve and meet challenges as a group translates to working together to bring about God's kingdom here on Earth. Plus, it's really fun!
Guest Speaker Rev. Corey Milliet joined the Youth Staff at the beginning of the 2013 school year. Corey graduated with her Masters of Christian Education and a specialization in Youth Ministries from Pfeiffer University in August 2014, and is currently a provisional Deacon of the United Methodist Church in the WNCC. Corey has worked in both the WNCC and the SC Conferences, and has been in ministry with children, youth, and families for eleven years. Corey and her husband live in Stallings. Even though Corey oversees the Youth Ministry as a whole, she works primarily with our 10th-12th graders, and college-aged adults.
