Giving Your Brain A Workout: The Science and Practice of Promoting Lifespan Cognitive Health

Join us at Granite State College in Concord for a Friday morning   3 CE workshop presented by Dr. John Randolph

Registration Includes Printed Presenter Materials and Morning            Coffee and Pastries

Description: Regardless of specialty or practice location, most clinicians have heard clients express concerns about perceived cognitive difficulties.  This seminar will consider the importance of understanding and promoting cognitive health across settings and throughout the lifespan.  Factors impacting on brain/cognitive health will be reviewed, including biopsychosocial variables that affect subjective and objective cognitive functioning, neuroscience research related to cognitive health, and lifestyle choices (e.g., activity engagement, dietary considerations) that can potentially enhance cognitive abilities and reduce the likelihood of cognitive decline according to evidence-based perspectives.  In addition to participant exercises designed to reinforce seminar content, practical strategies will be discussed that can serve to incorporate cognition-promoting interventions into one’s clinical repertoire.

Learning Objectives: This workshop is designed to help participants

1. Explain the importance of cognitive health across clinical and other settings and discuss the emerging field of positive neuropsychology.

2. Identify at least three medical, neurological, and psychological factors that can impact reported and/or objective cognitive functioning.

3. List and examine four key domains of cognitive health promotion.

4. Recognize factors influencing cognitive health in children and adolescents, and consider effects of cognition-promoting interventions.

5. Identify at least three lifestyle factors associated with cognitive decline vs. cognitive health in ad

Presenter: Dr. John Randolph is a board-certified clinical neuropsychologist in independent practice and Adjunct Assistant Professor of Psychiatry at the Geisel School of Medicine at Dartmouth.  He earned his Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology (Neuropsychology specialization) from Washington State University, and completed clinical and research fellowships in Neuropsychology and Neuroimaging at the Geisel School of Medicine at Dartmouth.  His research has focused on contributors to cognitive health, metacognition, executive functioning, and cognitive and neuroimaging aspects of multiple sclerosis. He is Past President of the New Hampshire Psychological Association and a National Academy of Neuropsychology Fellow.  He is also editor of the recent book, Positive Neuropsychology: Evidence-Based Perspectives on Promoting Cognitive Health and author of the forthcoming The Brain Health Book: Using the Power of Neuroscience to Improve Your Life.
