Join Catholic Volunteers from Prison Ministry and the Office of Life, Justice and Advocacy at a Restorative Justice Workshop.
Catholic social teaching leads us to encourage models of restorative justice that seek to address crime in terms of the harm done to victims and communities, not simply as a violation of law. Restorative justice is concerned about who was impacted, what their needs are, and how to move forward with healing and right-relationship.
At this workshop, you will hear the story of a family directly impacted by crime and examples of restorative practices in criminal justice, schools, and ministry. We hope that this workshop may lay the groundwork for future trainings in our diocese and help us to become better advocates for the incorporation of restorative practices in our homes, schools, prisons and beyond.

Bios of Presenters
Andy Grosmaire is the Chief of Licensing with the Office of Financial Regulation for the state of Florida and a permanent deacon in the Catholic Church serving the diocese of Pensacola-Tallahassee.Kate Grosmaire is a Business Analyst with the Florida Department of Environmental Protection and is the author of "Forgiving My Daughter's Killer: A true story of Loss, Faith, and Unexpected Grace."
In 2010, after their daughter Ann was shot and killed by her boyfriend, they successfully advocated for restorative justice to shape the plea agreement. They are the co-founders of the Ann Grosmaire "Be The Change" Fund, a charitable fund to promote forgiveness and restorative justice pra.ctices under the Community Foundation of North Florida.
Caitlin Morneau serves as Director of Restorative Justice at Catholic Mobilizing Network. She joined the CMN team in 2017 after seven years of direct social services, volunteer management, operations, and program implementation at faith-based and secular non-profits such as Catholic Charities of Baltimore, Catholic Volunteer Network, and Youth Service Opportunities Project. At CMN, Caitlin is responsible for program development that increases understanding of restorative justice and use of restorative practices in Catholic contexts. She co-authored the preface of Redemption and Restoration: A Catholic Perspective on Restorative Justice with Howard Zehr and adapted this work into the faith formation guide Harm, Healing and Human Dignity: A Catholic Encounter with Restorative Justice.
Deb Close teaches World History and Dual Enrollment Ethics at a Pinellas County high school. She is a licensed trainer for the International Institute of Restorative Practices and trains school board employees in using restorative practices with students and co-workers. Her background includes Catholic healthcare and social justice ministry work.
Dr. Sandra Pavelka is a lifelong Catholic and nationally recognized restorative justice practitioner based in the state of Florida. She is President and CEO of Community & Restorative Justice Associates and Pavelka Consulting Group in addition to serving as Professor and Director of the Institute for Youth and Justice Studies at Florida Gulf Coast University. Her work with restorative circles and other restorative practices has included school districts and community organizations as well as consultation with policy makers, justice system stakeholders, victim advocates and non-profit organizations on implementation of restorative justice principles, practices, and policy.
