Edible Art: Thanksgiving Cookies FAMILY EDITION - Su11/19

We encourage you to bring your favorite kid to work together on decorating cookies in this class! This class is open to everyone but Rachel will have some slightly more elaborate cookies and will explain some mor advanced skills including how to do Royal Icing transfers! Rachel Warner will bring prepared cookies and show you how to decorate them using royal icing. Participants will leave with 8-10 cookies. Wear an apron and bring a box to take your cookies home. No Groupons or other pre-paid vouchers for this class.

This three-hour class will cover the basics of royal icing techniques including icing consistencies, outlining, flooding and marbling. No prior experience or special skills are needed and all materials will be provided. The instructor will demonstrate and then the class will decorate together. Students will take home 8-10 finished cookies, as well as recipes to make the royal icing and cookies at home. Please bring a tray or box to take your cookies home. 

Royal icing is a special icing that bakers use made from powdered sugar, water, egg whites, and flavorings. It is easy to make, shelf-stable, and absolutely delicious. It’s also easy to work with and transforms baked cookies into unique pieces of ‘edible art’.

ABOUT THE INSTRUCTOR: Rachel can’t remember when she fell in love with baking. Her first lessons in food science came as a little girl, watching her grandad make the holiday peanut brittle. She learned then, and still believes today, that sugar is a little bit magic. She is the owner of Ookalooka Cookies, a boutique bakery that designs custom cookies and cakes for special events. “It’s great to make beautiful things and share them with people you love. It’s really great if those things also taste amazing.”
