MEETING DETAILS

An influenza pandemic would increase the need for public health agencies and healthcare partners to coordinate response and preparedness efforts to address the local healthcare needs of their communities. The Community Assessment Tool (CAT) is intended to help stakeholders in a community come together and address their medical surge capabilities and future planning needs. While the purpose of the CAT is to further prepare the community for an influenza pandemic, its framework is an extension of the traditional all-hazards approach to planning and preparedness. As such, the information gathered by the tool is useful in preparation for most widespread public health emergencies. This COCA call will illustrate how the CAT can assist in identifying core agency partners' capabilities and resources, address gaps in a community's capabilities, and can be used to improve a community’s emergency preparedness plan.

At the conclusion of the session, the participant will be able to accomplish the following:
  • Discuss the rationale behind the Community Assessment Tool
  • Illustrate how the Community Assessment Tool can assist in developing a coordinated and integrated community healthcare surge plan
  • Identify future uses of the Community Assessment Tool
