Gain Knowledge, Develop a Skill, Start a Hobby, Have some fun!
Are you interested in Mexican cowboys, Spanish Hollywood, the Tango, pop culture or the most popular Hispanic foods? You can learn about all of these things in this active learning class with music, dance and dining, all while using easy and useful Spanish phrases! This class goes far beyond traditional lecture to group participation in a variety of contexts, including an optional dining experience at the end of the course to exercise your Spanish. Students will interact with guest speakers and see a broad snapshot of the cultural highlights of the Hispanic/Latino population. This course unveils many cultural facts and their origins while facilitating a practical and fun Spanish-language learning segment that is especially relevant to Jonesboro.

Instructor: Kofi Martin is an honors graduate from Nettleton High School and a Magna Cum Laude graduate from the University of Memphis, with a Bachelor of Music. He holds a TESL certification to teach English as a second language, and a master’s degree in Extension Studies for Bilingual Education from the Universidad de Los Andes, and a Diploma in Teaching Spanish as a Second Language from the Universidad Nacional in Bogota, Colombia. Kofi has worked for The City Paper in Bogota as a contributing writer for lifestyles and culture and is currently pursuing his Master's in Public Administration at Arkansas State University and serving as an AmeriCorps volunteer at the Hispanic Community Services, Inc.
