Progress Monitoring - January 23, 2019

A Closer Look at Progress Monitoring

Presenters:  Carol Beth Mooneyhan & Sheryl Block, OVEC-ECS Consultants

What is Progress Monitoring?

Progress monitoring has been defined as the tools and methods used to collect, graph, and analyze data ultimately measuring progress in order to provide evidence of student performance specific to IEP annual goals.  Progress monitoring is SO important because it:

  • Measures progress a student is making toward an annual goal
  • Determines effectiveness of specially designed instruction
  • Guides instructional decisions and in making adjustments to instruction
  • Determines current level of learning/behavioral performance
  • Provides data for the reevaluation process
  • Determines if the student continues to meet eligibility for specially designed instruction

Learning Targets

  • Define & Identify methods of measurement
  • Collect, Graph, Analyze, Interpret & Communicate progress monitoring data
  • Make instructional decisions about a student's progress toward annual goals
  • Demonstrate the linkage between progress monitoring & writing present levels of performance for annual goal development
  • Develop proficiency in writing an analysis of student's progress and communicate progress monitoring data
