Mike Arrajj, RN is presenting "De-escalation Training and Workplace Safety". This training is for providers who work with adults, children, youth and families, and any community organizations and businesses who interact with the public.
Frontline and retail staff face a difficult responsibility when responding to situations where there is a threat of violence. This training prepares staff to respond to those situations using verbal techniques that will de-escalate the situation.
Guidelines for self-care and awareness, assessment and communication techniques, and a plan for team intervention will be covered.

Bio: Michael Arrajj has been in health care for over 30 years, 24 of those years as a registered nurse. He was the staff nurse for the Empress Hotel, which houses people with severe mental illness. As a case manager for the Mobile Outreach Support Team he worked with seriously mentally ill and homeless individuals on the streets. Prior to that, he worked as a case manager at San Francisco General Hospital (SFGH) and worked ten years in the Psychiatric Emergency Room at SFGH. He is certified trainer in the Professional Assault Response Training model.
