Comprehensive Local Needs Assessment: Results-Driven Planning for Perkins V

Audience: Perkins Fiscal Agent CTE Coordinators. Encouraged to bring a core district leadership team that could include: data stewards, CTE teachers, school counselors, curriculum directors, and other district staff as needed.

Session Description: 
As you are wrapping up your comprehensive local needs assessment and beginning to plan for CTE program continuous improvement, this workshop-style session will provide a platform for setting goals and objectives based on the findings of your assessment.

Pathways Wisconsin planning workshop for regions who will offer State Endorsed Regional Career Pathways in 2020-2021

Audience: Audience: For Wisconsin regions intending to develop, implement, and offer State Endorsed Regional Career Pathways in 2020-21. Regional partners include: CESAs (executive directors and ACP coordinators); Regional Economic Development Organizations (Inspire leads); technical colleges (Career Prep and Pathway Coordinators); two- and four-year universities, including private schools (high school liaisons); Workforce Development Boards (business and youth services); chambers of commerce (K12 education liaisons). This workshop is not intended for individual districts.

Session Description: Pathways Wisconsin embraces a regional approach to deliver high quality career pathways in the state by creating employer led, state endorsed regional career pathways for in-demand occupations that can be utilized by all education and training partners.  

Through a New Skills for Youth grant awarded to Wisconsin from JP Morgan Chase in early 2017, four pilot regions were able to embark on a pilot project for this work through 2019.  As we conclude the very successful pilot phase, Pathways Wisconsin funding will become available for all regions in Wisconsin who plan to offer state endorsed regional career pathways beginning in July 2020.  

Cross sector partners who are interested in working together to apply for Pathways Wisconsin funding are encouraged to attend this high energy, interactive planning workshop where you will use collective impact strategies to begin to develop a collaborative action plan to support State Endorsed Regional Career Pathways in your region.

The Future of Learning and Work: Bridging the Gap Between Educators and Employers
Kelly Palmer, Chief Learning Officer, Degreed

Automation, digitization, and acceleration are dramatically changing our world and the workplace. These trends require that we think about both learning and work differently, and the most successful companies are preparing for the future now with strategies to upskill and reskill their employees. This also means that there is a huge opportunity for universities, technical colleges, CESAs, school districts, and companies to partner more closely to help both students and employees build the skills and competencies most in demand now and in the future. This discussion will highlight the trends in the workforce, the skills of the future, what some companies are doing to help their employees continuously build skills throughout their careers, and examples of how universities, technical colleges, CESAs, school districts, and companies are partnering to help students prepare for the world of work in the 4th Industrial Revolution. 

 KELLY PALMER is on a mission to change the way the world learns. A well-known     thought leader on learning, business, and career development, she is currently on the   executive team of Degreed and was formerly the chief learning officer of LinkedIn. Prior     to LinkedIn, Kelly was vice president of learning at Yahoo! and held executive positions     in learning, M&A, and product development at Sun Microsystems. 

Kelly is the co-author of the book The Expertise Economy: How the smartest companies use learning to engage, compete, and succeed. She speaks regularly at companies and business conferences around the world and has been featured in Harvard Business Review, the Financial Times, Fast Company, Forbes, Entrepreneur, MIT Management Review, Scientific American, Barron’s, and on Bloomberg radio. Kelly has a Bachelor of Arts in English/communications and a Master of Science in adult learning and education technology. Kelly lives in San Francisco.

In Colorado, our economic story is at the heart of what and why we do what we do in Education. Economics drive education stories, education responds to economic stories. In Wisconsin, it can be the same! Through ACP, students demonstrate employability competencies, postsecondary readiness skills and a deeper understanding of their purpose, aspiration, career pathway and understanding the reasons why! Business-education partnerships for student career development, Meaningful Career Conversations (MCCs), and work-based learning are critical to this process.

 Lauren Jones is a licensed school counselor, nationally certified counselor, past   expeditionary learning instructor and past teen adventure guide. She is in her 9th year as   the Career & Technical Education (CTE) Program Director for Special Populations,   Counseling and Equity. She serves statewide school districts and postsecondary   institutions by providing trainings & resources that help support the programming for   implementation and collaborative efforts that parallel Colorado’s education initiatives that   support Career Literacy and Meaningful Career Conversations, important acronyms such   as: ICAP, PWR, ACE; Graduation Guidelines. Career Pathways, equity and more. Her passion for students and their authentic, meaningful learning can sometimes be contagious. Her advocacy for School Counselors within the CTE family is prominent in the work she does. Lauren also began and coordinates the implementation of Middle School CTE programs, serves and wears many other hats including: Project Manager for Equity in CTE within the context of non-trad; co-supervisor of Colorado’s statewide PWR/ICAP Facilitators; Subject Matter Expert for Equity in CTE with Advance CTE and US Dept of Ed; Region V representative for ACTE Guidance & Career Development Division; one of the founding members for the CCCS Equity and Inclusivity Council; constant advocate for Special Populations; and everything CTE in Colorado!

Ed Paradowski, President, Apache Stainless

 Ed Paradowski has served as President of Apache Stainless Equipment since 2010. Prior   to that, he spent 7 years at Kohler Company, and 7 years as an entrepreneur running his   own manufacturing company.  In addition, Ed is currently a board member for the   Wisconsin Center for Manufacturing and Productivity, where he serves as chair.  Ed   currently teaches in the adult education program at Wisconsin Lutheran College, and he   has been active in the Wisconsin Regional Career Pathways project since its inception in 2015. Ed is a native of Milwaukee, attended Milwaukee Trade and Technical High School, and received his MBA from the University of Wisconsin Madison. Ed has 4 daughters, 3 in the UW system and 1 at Port Washington High School.
