Volunteer Sign-Up

Event is Saturday, October 17, 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.

Set-up is Saturday, October 17, 7:30 to 9:30 a.m.

A Rally Day is scheduled for Friday, October 2, 2015 in the Shelby Center for Science and Technology, Room 160.  We will be preparing the girls' backpacks and presentor kits.  Please let us know on the sign in sheet if you are planning to attend.  Even if you can't help on October 17, Rally Day is a great way to get involved.

Volunteer Opportunities on October 17 Include:

Registration:  We need 8 individuals to work the registration table by handing out name badges to the girls and schedule sheets to their parents/guardians.

Greeter:  We need to have at least 4 individuals to stand behind the registration table to take the girls to the group leaders and ensure that individuals who do not have a badge are not entering the facility.

Runner:  Runners are needed on each floor of the Shelby Center for Science and Technology to assist with classroom transition and any emergencies that may arise. You may be asked to assist the Girls' Team Leaders in bathroom breaks or a presenter with their session. You will be in contact with Volunteer Mission Control.  We need 6 runners.

Workshop Co-Presenter / Team Member:  If you are assisting with a workshop and plan to stay for the entire day, you will need to sign up as a co-presenter/team member.  

Office Volunteer:  If you are able to assist in the two weeks prior event during the day in our office, please contact us at 256-824-6771.

Information for Day of the Event

Presenters and volunteers must check in on Saturday, October 17 between 7:30 a.m. and 9:00 a.m.  This will give you time to navigate the traffic and get your area set-up before participant check-in begins at 9:30 a.m.

Please check in at the Girls Science and Engineering Day Designated volunteer "office" on the first floor of the Shelby Center for Science and Technology (signs will be posted).  This is where you will be given your credentials, and assignment..

We are serving a box lunch at 11:50 a.m.  

There is construction on the UAH campus adjacent to the Shelby Science Center.  You can pull up and unload in front of the building, but your vehicle must be moved to a parking lot immediately.  The closest is the Intermodal Parking Facility (building IMF #16 on the campus map), a short walk across the campus to the Shelby Center. Alabama State Law requires that any event on the University campus with minor children must have a list of all adults in the building on file.  Anyone who has not registered prior to October 9 will not be allowed in the Shelby Center for Science and Technology on October 17, 2015.  All participants must sign in at the Volunteer / Presenter designated office and wear a badge.
