Jeffrey Conklin-Miller Presents on His Recently Released Book

Professor Conklin-Miller teaches courses in Christian formation, mission, evangelism, and ministry in the Wesleyan/Methodist tradition. Drawing from conversations in theological ethics, missiology, practical theology, and the Methodist theological tradition, Dr. Conklin-Miller’s research considers the theological relationship of the Church and the world and the connections between ecclesial practices of formation and faithful witness. As an ordained elder in the California-Pacific Annual Conference of the United Methodist Church, Conklin-Miller has more than a decade of experience serving local churches in Southern California as an associate pastor, co-pastor, and senior pastor. 

In his most recent book Leaning Both Ways at Once Conklin-Miller suggests that faithful [Wesleyan] evangelism requires living in the tension between the church and the world, "leaning both ways at once," emphasizing the holiness of the church as a particular people, but at the same time, being a people sent to intercede in the world as servants, advocates, and witnesses. This understanding constitutes not only a broader reframing of evangelistic mission but also a vision for the identity and agency of the church in the Wesleyan tradition: a Methodist missional ecclesiology.

Research & Teaching Fellow for The Foundation for Evangelism

Rev. Dr. Heather Lear works with The Foundation for Evangelism as the Teaching and Research Fellow. Prior to that, she served as the Director of Evangelism for The United Methodist Church Discipleship Ministries. Heather is an ordained elder in the North Carolina Conference of The United Methodist Church and served local churches in Raleigh-Durham and Rocky Mount areas. In addition to working with the FFE, Heather serves as a representative of the UMC at Evangelism Connections, an ecumenical group that focuses on evangelism, and she is active as a teacher and leader in her local church.
