Innovators In Education: From Theory To Practice 

Russell Barkley, PhD will be presenting for his last time in the Washington, DC area on “Recent Advances in Understanding and Managing ADHD.” He has written numerous books, presented at hundreds of workshops and has received numerous awards for his work in ADHD. He will be joined by Kathleen Kryza, MA who will speak on transformative teaching. She has written several  books including Transformative Teaching: Changing Today’s Classrooms Culturally, Academically and Emotionally and will provide practical and doable strategies for working with children.

Participants in this workshop will :

Understand the limitations involved in using DSM-5 criteria for diagnosing ADHD

Demonstrate knowledge of the primary characteristics of ADHD and reconceptualizing it as a disorder of executive functioning and self-regulation       

 Describe effective evidence based treatments for ADHD in children

State the nature of the newly discovered second attention disorder: Sluggish Cognitive Tempo

Will understand the actions and mission of a teacher hero

Define how the Chunk, Chew and Check  framework can  simplify lesson design and engage all learners.

Learn how to weave Growth Mindset thinking into your daily instruction

Demonstrate knowledge of brain-based strategies to help children become responsible, empowered learners.
