If you have a business, chances are you have intellectual property, whether it's a product, a brand, or even a blog.
While we often group patents, trademarks, copyrights, and trade secrets under the umbrella of “intellectual property,” they in fact provide very different protections. Nevertheless, they can all play a crucial role in the success of your small business.
In this workshop, we’ll learn the basics of patent, trademark, copyright, and trade secret law, including the rights granted, filing requirements (if any), how to protect your rights, and how to avoid getting in trouble yourself. This program will be a great resource for businesses at all stages.
This workshop is co-sponsored by SCORE Boston and the Harvard Ed Portal. It will be presented by Lucas Blackadar and Michael Gu.
Lucas Blackadar is a Boston-based intellectual property attorney. Prior to opening his practice, The Law Office of Lucas M. Blackadar, Luke worked as a business litigation attorney at a law firm in downtown Boston, where he defended architects and engineers from professional liability lawsuits and advised clients in drafting professional services contracts.
Michael Gu is a registered patent attorney and business litigation attorney at Donovan Hatem LLP. Michael’s litigation practice involves defending professionals in various disciplines from professional liability lawsuits. Prior to practicing law, Michael was a geotechnical engineer for the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers.
