Rev. John Edgar is the founding pastor of the United Methodist Church for All People. This remarkably diverse congregation is comprised primarily of low income persons. Rev. Edgar is also the Executive Director of Community Development for All People (CD4AP). CD4AP is a faith-based multifaceted community development corporation with the mission of improving the quality of life of persons living on the South Side of Columbus, Ohio.
An ordained pastor for over 35 years, Rev. Edgar has previously served as a district superintendent and dean of the cabinet in the West Ohio Conference of the United Methodist Church. www.westohioumc.org
Partnerships: All the ministries at C4AP “…was made possible by bringing together the strengths, assets, and resources in the community. Every neighborhood has assets and resources—and there are two assets that never go away: people in our churches and communities, and the presence of God’s spirit. If you look at what’s there, you look at connections and who can make contributions from stuff we’ve already got. …start by looking at what’s working…and build from there.” www.minnesotaumc.org
Ms. Anne Bosarge currently serves as the Multi-Campus Director for the The Chapel Ministries, a multi-site congregation in Brunswick, GA. Anne has a passion for creating environments where people can encounter God and fall in love with Jesus. In addition to her work in the local church, she loves empowering church leaders and helping them fulfill the calling God has place on their lives.
You can keep up with all Ann is doing at www.brightideasforchurchleaders.com or www.thechapelministries.com.
Big Change One Step at a Time: What is the cost if you begin to make changes in your church? What is the cost in one year if you don’t? We will explore the necessity of change in today’s church and learn how to develop a culture of evaluation and assessment within your congregation that will create an environment where change can thrive and grow.
Rev. Laura Beach Byrch is on staff at Rural Faith Development Community Development Corporation, Western North Carolina Conference. She coordinates the NETworX Yadkin initiative and facilitates communication among all the anti-poverty initiatives across the state. Laura is an ordained elder in the Western North Carolina Conference of the United Methodist Church and also works part time as Minister of Community Engagement at Boone UMC. Laura has a passion for bringing together individuals from different backgrounds to form deep, mutual friendships.
What do we have?: Asset-based Community Development—the focus is more on discovering the assets already present in a community and how those can be mobilized towards a hoped-for-future. www.rfdcdc.org.
Topic A - From “Free Store” to Worship: An intentionally cross-class and multi-racial congregation that grew out of the message of unconditional love offered by the Free Store. www.4allpeople.org
Topic B - Unleashing the Power of Creativity in Ministry: Are you ready to take your church or ministry to the next level and go where God is leading? Are you hearing the call to reach people no one else in your community is reaching and do things no one else is doing? If you are, then you’re going to need to unleash the power of creativity! Discover that you were created to be creative and learn how to overcome the roadblocks to creativity.
Topic C - Visioning for Ministry: Visioning about how your congregation can respond to an observed need in the community, build on your strengths/resources, set goals/objectives, and launch a ministry.
Topic D - Partnering in West Virginia: A presentation of a ministry model of asset-based development and partnering that congregations, working together, might be able to replicate in their area.
