We Care 150: Flood Recovery 

Riders are responsible for arranging their own
transportation to start and from finish.

RIDE DESCRIPTIONS:

Riders will receive cue sheet before ride.

Ride 1 – 50 Mile Ride

Starting from St. Marks UMC in downtown Charleston, the route uses city streets to go to Bigley Avenue and Elk River Road north.  Elk River Road, Route 4/119, is a paved highway which goes through the communities of Elkview, Big Chimney, and Clendenin.  This bike route continues on Route 4 to Procious, WV.  Just past the Procious Post Office the route forks right onto Elkhurst Road, County Route 5 (also called Jacks Bend Road).  The route turns left at the end of Elkhurst Road onto Route 16 going into Clay, WV.  The 50 mile ride ends at Clay County High School.

 

Ride 2 – 100 Mile Ride

Starting from St. Marks UMC in downtown Charleston, the route uses city streets to go to Bigley Avenue and Elk River Road north.  Elk River Road, Route 4/119, is a paved highway which goes through the communities of Elkview, Big Chimney, and Clendenin.  This bike route continues on Route 4 to Procious, WV.  Just past the Procious Post Office the route forks right onto Elkhurst Road, County Route 5 (also called Jacks Bend Road).  The route turns left at the end of Elkhurst Road onto Route 16 going into Clay, WV where it rejoins Route 4 going to Sutton, WV.  The 100 mile ride ends in Sutton. (a full century will require the rider to ride into Sutton and then return to the Go Mart at the end of the Exit 62 ramp on I-79)

 

Ride 3 – 150 Mile Ride

Starting from St. Marks UMC in downtown Charleston, the route uses city streets to go to Bigley Avenue and Elk River Road north.  Elk River Road, Route 4/119, is a paved highway which goes through the communities of Elkview, Big Chimney, and Clendenin.  This bike route continues on Route 4 to Procious, WV.  Just past the Procious Post Office the route forks right onto Elkhurst Road, County Route 5 (also called Jacks Bend Road).  The route turns left at the end of Elkhurst Road onto Route 16 going into Clay, WV where it rejoins Route 4 going to Sutton, WV.  Those riding 150 or 200 miles spend the night at Sutton.  For persons riding 150 miles the route continues north on Route 4 and Route 19 through Flatwoods, Heaters, Napier, Bulltown, Falls Mills, Ireland and Walkersville.  The route turns right onto County Route 15, Georgetown Road then left on Route 33/48/119/ Corridor H to Buckhannon where it goes on city streets to the campus of West Virginia Wesleyan College.

 

Ride 4 – 200 Mile Ride

Starting from St. Marks UMC in downtown Charleston, the route uses city streets to go to Bigley Avenue and Elk River Road north.  Elk River Road, Route 4/119, is a paved highway which goes through the communities of Elkview, Big Chimney, and Clendenin.  This bike route continues on Route 4 to Procious, WV.  Just past the Procious Post Office the route forks right onto Elkhurst Road, County Route 5 (also called Jacks Bend Road).  The route turns left at the end of Elkhurst Road onto Route 16 going into Clay, WV where it rejoins Route 4 going to Sutton, WV.  Those riding 150 or 200 miles spend the night at Sutton.  For those riding 200 miles the route retraces its pathway exactly back to St Marks UMC in Charleston.

 

Ride 5 – Up to 28 Mile Ride

The West Fork River Trail is a mostly paved trail between Shinnston and Fairmont and runs along the Monongahela River.  The ride crosses a few roads where those needing a ride back to Shinnston will be picked up.  Participants may also choose to ride the entire trail up and back or turn when they would like to ride back to Shinnston.  This is a completely flat ride.
