Oklahoma's Colonial Williamsburg Teacher Institute 25th Anniversary Celebration and Workshop

We invite you to participate in a very special 25th anniversary celebration of Oklahoma's Colonial Williamsburg Teacher Institute on Friday, Feb. 9, at the Oklahoma State Capitol and the Oklahoma History Center.

“Our Revolutionary Road Trip” is the theme of the celebration, which is being organized by a committee of Teacher Institute Alumni leaders in partnership with the Oklahoma Foundation for Excellence and the Colonial Williamsburg Foundation. Activities will be held at the Oklahoma State Capitol, 2300 Lincoln Blvd., and the nearby Oklahoma History Center, 800 Nazih Zuhdi Dr., in Oklahoma City.

The event is being held in conjunction with Colonial Day at the Capitol, a hands-on history day for Oklahoma fifth-graders. During Colonial Day, teachers will have the opportunity to attend teacher-track sessions or to observe student sessions to gain ideas for creating Colonial Day events in their own communities. In the afternoon, participants can choose from breakout sessions offered by presenters from Colonial Williamsburg, Mount Vernon and the Oklahoma History Center, as well as fellow educators.

The celebration will conclude with a reception, door prizes and a reunion dinner at the Oklahoma History Center. The evening presentation will feature three founding fathers – Thomas Jefferson, James Madison and Alexander Hamilton, respectively portrayed by historical interpreters Bill Barker and Bryan Austin from Colonial Williamsburg and Eben Kuhns from Mount Vernon. Their address, "From Revolution to Compromise," will focus on their different visions for our fledgling country and how they reached compromise for the common good.Participants who attend both Colonial Day and afternoon workshop sessions will earn certificates for eight hours of continuing education credit. Teacher Institute Alumni are encouraged to wear colonial costumes for the day and will earn an extra door prize ticket for dressing in period clothing. We will also have opportunities throughout the day for group and individual photos.

Substitute Reimbursement Available: A limited amount of substitute reimbursement funds are available to help alumni participate in this event. Please complete the form prior to the reunion and email it to rachel@ofe.org. Funds will be dispersed after your attendance.

Thanks to generous support from our sponsors, registration is just $30 for Teacher Institute alumni. Registration includes lunch, dinner and all activities. Register early, as space is limited.
