FSDB Virtual ECC Interactive Learning Series - Winter 2020

Creative Minds Creating Thoughtful Creations

"THOUGHTFULNESS IS THE OPPOSITE OF SELFISHNESS. THOUGHTFULNESS IS A FORM OF LOVE THAT SEEKS TO UPLIFT AND DO GOOD WHENEVER POSSIBLE”

The Florida School for the Deaf and the Blind (FSDB) is excited to continue our Virtual Expanded Core Curriculum (ECC) Interactive Learning Series for children ages 6-13 who are deaf/hard of hearing (D/HH) or blind/visually impaired (B/VI).

What are Interactive learning Series? -  Interactive family friendly lessons focused on areas of the Expanded Core Curriculum.

Expanded Core Curriculum:

  • Compensatory  -critical thinking skills, mechanics of writing and speaking
  • Social/emotional- evoking memories, communicating emotions, demonstrating the art of giving
  • Rec & Leisure- using your hands to create artwork, food, gifts, memorabilia

In this session students will receive a variety of materials, templates, and ideas. Students will use critical thinking strategies, creative thought processes and mindful memories to create items they will make to share with someone or many. The act of giving, creating, and sharing in mindful practices is good for the mind, body and soul. Come join us for this mindful event- Let's come together.

Students* who have an active IEP with D/HH or B/VI as their primary exceptionality are eligible to register for these exciting weekend sessions. *This learning series is not currently offered to FSDB students.

The virtual ECC sessions are available at no cost and all registered children will receive materials delivered to their homes for participation via live conferencing and engaging online classroom activities.

An adult must participate in all activities with your child and register prior to the event. These sessions are available at no cost for eligible Florida students ages 6-13 who are either D/HH or B/VI.

Each lesson is led by certified teachers with experience working with students who are D/HH or B/VI.

Lesson Objective: Students will use critical thinking strategies to create handmade gifts for people they want to share with. Students will have the materials to complete 3-5 gifts to share.
