June 2017- Ocean Exploration Cruise

Join NECWA for our annual spring offshore excursion!

Sunday, June 11th

8:00 am to 2:00 pm

Join the New England Coastal Wildlife Alliance (NECWA) for our all day marine excursion to view seabirds, whales, dolphins, seals, basking sharks, and other marine animals found in Massachusetts Bay, including the waters of the Stellwagen Bank National Marine Sanctuary.

Note: This 6-hour trip in June will be 2 hours shorter than the time provided for our standard Ocean Exploration Cruises. Tickets prices are reduced to compensate for this reduction in searching/viewing time offshore.

Tickets:

$80 for adults

$65 for students (college or high school)

For information on group registration, contact us at contact@necwa.org. To be eligible for the reduced student fare, send a photo of your college or high school ID to contact@necwa.org.

Enjoy our guided wildlife commentary by amazing guest naturalists. Our guest naturalists for this trip include:

  • Wayne Petersen (Mass Audubon Society)
  • Jim Sweeney (South Shore Bird Club)
  • Thomas Robben (Hartford Audubon Society)
  • Dr. Adrian Jordaan (UMASS Amherst, Dept. of Environmental Conservation)

NECWA naturalists and staff will include Krill Carson and Tammy Silva. The 7 Seas Whale Watch naturalist and captain will be Capt. Jay Frontierro.

Travel aboard the Privateer, a 100’ commercial whale-watching vessel owned and operated by Seas Whale Watch. Seating is limited on our Ocean Exploration Cruises to ensure spacious seating arrangements and rail space.

Leave from the 7 Seas Wharf in Gloucester at 8:00 am sharp and return by 2 pm.

If time allows and weather permits, we will conduct a plankton tow and plankton demonstration as well as chum for seabirds.

Fundraising Event for NECWA

This annual fundraising event supports marine wildlife education, research, and conservation in the New England area.

NECWA is an all-volunteer nonprofit organization. Registration fees and donations from our Ocean Exploration Cruises are used to support our many projects and activities.

Learn more about NECWA by visiting:

Our website at www.necwa.org

When close to sailing date: check our blog for trip updates at www.necwanews.blogspot.com

Our Facebook Page

Cancellation - If the trip is canceled due to lack of interest or inclement weather offshore, you will be notified by NECWA and reimbursed your entire registration fee, minus a $20 administration fee to NECWA. If you cancel your registration at least 2 weeks prior to our sailing date, NECWA will reimbursed 70% of your ticket. After that date, no refund is available.

Given the late date of this trip in the spring of 2017, there is no weather day scheduled for this cruise. The determination for weather cancellation will be made by the captain of the vessel on either Saturday or early Sunday morning (the day of the cruise).

Waiver - All passengers will be asked to fill out a trip liability waiver. Thank you.

Fall Ocean Exploration Cruise - Save the Date!

Hope you can join us for our Fall Ocean Exploration Cruise on Sunday, October 22, 2017 from 8 am to 4 pm. We will once again be sailing aboard the Privateer IV, owned and operated by 7 Seas Whale Watch, out of Gloucester, MA. NECWA will open registration for this event in late June.
