Maternal Mental Health Disorders Impacts On Lactation & Infant & Child Development

Please join us for Maternal Mental Health Disorders Impacts on Lactation & Infant & Child Development with Emily Bernard, MA, IBCLC with 2020Mom. This session will focus on maternal mental health disorders such as postpartum depression and anxiety, which are the leading complications of childbirth and can negatively impact infant and child development and the lactation journey. Although treatable, many women are never diagnosed nor receive treatment.

Objectives  
  1. The participant will be able to identify the range of maternal mental health disorders and how each impacts lactation and development.
  2. The participant will understand the prevalence of each disorder and how this impacts lactation outcomes.
  3. The participant will learn about the national framework to improve early identification and intervention and become familiar with evidence based therapies that can be deployed in numerous settings, including lactation service providers, pediatric offices, NICUs, home visits and more.

Speaker


Emily Bernard, MA, IBCLC is a family counselor who also serves as an engagement, policy and project management consultant working across the nation with non-profits, local health departments and community based organizations. Her passion is in counseling families and individuals, often who are involved with the family court system, to improve their own and their children’s physical and mental health outcomes across many spectrums of care, including childbirth and lactation. She also works with organizations such as 2020 Mom to support their communities as well as engage the organization through strategic development and partnerships to build capacity. She is often found facilitating or providing community assessments while ensuring diversity, equity, and inclusion principles and trains others through curriculum development and implementation. She serves as an adjunct faculty professor at Merced College in the Rising Scholars Program through California State Prisons as well as teaches courses to all students around personal and social adjustment and general psychology. She earned a Bachelors in Science and Masters Degree in Psychology with an emphasis in Family Counseling and Health and is currently completing her Doctorate in Clinical Psychology. She became an International Board Certified Lactation Consultant over a decade ago, a doula not long after, and is a Certified Conscious Coparenting Facilitator. She has furthered her collective impact education through the Tamarack Institute for Community Engagement as well as becoming a Master Trainer for TeamSTEPPS through Duke University. She loves spending time with her family outdoors and being an active part of her three children’s lives through their various activities while residing in the Central Valley of California.

 After the webinar a recording will be sent to all registrants to view for up to 3 years, therefore no refunds will be granted. It is the responsibility of the participant to view the recording while it is available

Continuing Education Credits

RN: BreastfeedLA is an approved provider by the California Board of Registered Nursing. This course offers 3 contact hours of continuing education. BreastfeedLA’s provider number is CEP 16435. Licensee must maintain certificate for a period of four years.

IBCLC: BreastfeedLA is an approved Long-Term Provider by the International Board of Lactation Consultant Examiners #CLT113-36.                                  1 L-CERPs & 1.5 R-CERPs will be awarded.

RDs & OTs: Maintain a copy of the agenda and certificate for CPEs for Professional Development Portfolio.
