Creating a Roadmap for Lactation
Support in the NICU

Description

On November 10, 2021 from 10:00 AM to 11:30 AM PST BreastfeedLA presents Creating a Roadmap for Lactation Support in the NICU, a live webinar featuring Dr. Lisa Stellwagen and Cindy Young, MPH, RD, CLE. Together they will present best practices for supporting lactation in the NICU. 

Participants will be awarded 1 L-CERP & 1 Contact Hour.

Objectives:

During this presentation, participants will: 

  • Learn where California is with human milk feeding for the smallest babies in the NICU

  • Listen to current mandates for use of human milk in the NICU

  • Learn the recommended elements of developing a supportive environment for breastmilk feeding in the NICU

  • Hear about some of the pressure points for families and staff in the NICU 

  • Discuss how to help all families meet their breastmilk feeding goals despite having a hospitalized child

  • Review the recent Los Angeles Landscape analysis about human milk use patterns in the NICU

Speakers

   Dr. Lisa Stellwagen attended Tufts University School of Medicine, and completed her Pediatric training and Chief Residency at Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston. She has spent 35 years caring for children in clinic, outpatient, NICU, and neonatal hospital settings.  She is a member of the Executive Board of the AAP Section on Breastfeeding.  Dr. Stellwagen is the Executive and Medical Director of the newly launched University of California Health Milk Bank, and a member of the HMBANA Standards Committee.

Cindy M. Young, MPH, RD, CLE is a Senior Program Manager with BreastfeedLA (Breastfeeding Task Force of Greater Los Angeles).  Cindy has been with BreastfeedLA since 2013 where she plans and manages programs including the hospital breastfeeding initiative.  Prior to coming to the Task Force, Cindy worked for the County of Los Angeles, Public Health Nutrition Program.  Cindy received her undergraduate degree in Dietetics from Brigham Young University and received her Master's degree in Public Health from UCLA.  Cindy is one of the founding members of the Asian Pacific Islander Breastfeeding Task Force and is passionate about normalizing breast/chestfeeding and closing disparity gaps in the AANHPI community.  In her free time, Cindy loves cooking with her two children and husband, running, hiking, backpacking and being in nature.

After the webinar a recording will be sent to all registrants to view for up to 3 years, therefore no refunds will be granted. It is the responsibility of the participant to view the recording while it is available. 

Payment Policy

Payment must be made during the time of online registration using a credit or debit card. If you need to make alternate payment arrangements such as a company check to be mailed to BreastfeedLA, you MUST pay the General Registration rate and contact info@breastfeedla.org. No Early Bird registration rates will apply to payments by check. This policy is in effect as of Aug 1, 2017.

Continuing Education Credits

RN: BreastfeedLA is an approved provider by the California Board of Registered Nursing. This course offers 1 contact hour of continuing education. BreastfeedLA’s provider number is CEP 16435. Licensee must maintain certificate for a period of four years.

IBCLC: BreastfeedLA is an approved Long-Term Provider by the International Board of Lactation Consultant Examiners #CLT113-36. 1 L-CERPs will be awarded.

RDs & OTs: Maintain a copy of the agenda and certificate for CPEs for Professional Development Portfolio.
