About the Allen Silbergleit Keynote Lecture

This year's lecture will be presented by Michael T. Osterholm, PhD, MPH, Regents Professor, McKnight Presidential Endowed Chair in Public Health, and the Founding Director of the Center for Infectious Disease Research and Policy (CIDRAP) at the University of Minnesota.

An internationally renowned epidemiologist, he has been at the forefront of public health preparedness, has led many outbreak investigations of international importance, and continues to advise world leaders on the ever-growing list of microbial threats. In November 2020, Dr. Osterholm was appointed to President-elect Joe Biden's 13-member transition COVID-19 Advisory Board.  From June 2018 through May 2019, he served as a Science Envoy for Health Security on behalf of the US Department of State.

He is the author of the 2017 New York Times best-selling book, Deadliest Enemy: Our War Against Killer Germs, in which he details the most pressing infectious disease threats of our day.  He lays out a nine-point strategy on how to address the threats, with preventing a global pandemic at the top of his list.
