The pressures on wild populations of elephants are increasing at an alarming rate. Wildlife habitat continues to shrink while human-elephant conflict increases. Conservationists and researchers around the world strive to protect the remaining animals and habitat. The 18th International Elephant Conservation & Research Symposium presented by the International Elephant Foundation will feature presentations by elephant conservationists, researchers, keepers, and experts from around the world. The presentations will cover a broad range of topics such as conservation projects and research outcomes, new technologies in field conservation, conflict mitigation, studies in disease, reproduction, behavior, and other issues that impact the long-term survival of African and Asian elephants.
While we are eager to host an in-person as soon as possible, the continued uncertainty of the ongoing pandemic including travel rules and restrictions combined with a lack of financial support for some of our anticipated participants has encouraged us to hold the 2022 symposium virtually as in 2021. While we are tentatively planning the next in-person symposium for Fall 2023, we believe that it is important that elephant experts, researchers, veterinarians, and conservationists have a platform to share and exchange ideas before then.
Please join leaders in the elephant community for this year’s Virtual Symposium featuring 5 days of online presentations as well as an exciting showcase of virtual sponsors!
