Thank you for your interest in volunteering for this year's Thanksgiving Dinner for the Community.
Our dinner is unique because we serve our guests like a restaurant. We seat them and make them feel very special. We also bless them with a gift bag of goodies as they leave.
After all of our guests have been served, all the volunteers are invited to sit and enjoy a thanksgiving dinner together. This usually occurs at 6:00 pm.
Clean up occurs after all the volunteers eat.
We do two seating’s for our guests: 3:00 pm and 4:30 pm.
Below is a list of volunteer positions with descriptions of tasks and time allocation. Please sign up where you think you can help and be of service to our community. You can volunteer for multiple positions.
All food preparation and serving will be done at St. Michael's Anglican Church, 409 E. Broadway.
Food preparation will be done on Friday, October 11, 2013 from 12:00 pm to 9:00 pm.
We will also require food prepartion help on the day of the dinner Saturday, October 12, 2013.
Volunteer Positions Available
Servers (32 required): You are required to show up at 2:00 pm wearing white shirt and black pants or skirt. You need to be present for both servings. Instructions and table assignments will be given on the day of the dinner. You will be responsible for serving our guests and after the first serving, and help clear the tables and reset for the next seating. Time allocation is between 2:00 pm and 5:30 pm.
Buffet Line Servers (14 required): You will be assigned a food item in the warmer unit in front of you to dish out via assembly line onto a plate that moves along the line. For each seating you will be dishing out for approximately 150 plates. Time allocation is between 2:00 pm and 5:30 pm.
Food Kitchen Runners/Platers (6 required): Monitor the food levels in the warming units and run food from kitchens to refill units. Platers put the prepared plates on trays and pass them to food runners. Time allocation is between 2:00 pm and 5:30 pm.
Food Runners (10 required): Bring the trays full of prepared plates to the servers who serve our guests. Time allocation is between 2:00 pm and 5:30 pm.
Pie Preparation (4 required): Your duties are to cut and plate the pies and put them on trays and run them to the food runners. Time allocation is between 2:00 pm and 5:30 pm.
Cleaning Crew during the dinner for the gym (8 required): Your duties are to clean up spills, gather garbage bags and help clear tables after each seating is finished. Time allocation is between 2:00 pm and 5:30 pm.
Cleaning Crew before and during the dinner in the kitchen (6 required): Your duties are to wash pots, pans, chafing dishes as they are brought to the kitchen before and during the dinner. Time allocation is between 12:00 pm and 5:30 pm.
Cleaning Crew after the dinner (8 required): Your duties are to wash pots, pans, chafing dishes that are brought into the kitchen after the dinner and serving the volunteers. Time Allocation is between 6:30 pm and 8:00 pm. You are invited to have turkey dinner with all the volunteers prior at approximately 6:00 pm.
Salad Station (2 required): Your duties are mix prepared salad in large bowls and put into smaller containers for servers to grab to distribute to our guests. Time allocation is between 2:00 pm and 5:30 pm.
Food Preparation Crew Friday (no limit): Duties are to cook turkeys, make liquid stock and prepare stuffing and vegetable medley. Time allocation is between 12:00 pm and 9:00 pm.
Food Preparation Crew Saturday (no limit): Duties are to reheat turkey, gravy, stuffing and cooking vegetables, prepare salads, prepare potatoes, etc. Time allocation is between 11:00 am and 3:00 pm.
Beverage Station (3 required): Duties are to make juice and coffee and put into containers for beverage servers to distribute to guests on carts. Time allocation is between 1:00 pm and 5:00 pm.
Beverage Servers (6 required): Duties are to serve our guests via carts with coffee and juice throughout both seatings. Time allocation is between 2:00 pm and 5:30 pm.
Set up / Decorating crew (no limit): Duties are to set up the gym tables, decorate, and prepare wrapped utensils and to make gift bags for all the guests. Time allocation is 10:00 am till 2:00 pm.
Security Team (6 required): Duties are to line up our guests and check tickets for proper seating and to inform food runners of any take out dinners to prepare and hand out to those who are unable to climb the stairs. Time allocation is between 2:00 pm and 5:30 pm.
