"Website Engineering PART I"

Ronald Louis Gigliotti developed Westmoreland SCORE’s “Website Engineering: Thoughts and Realties” Workshop about 4 years ago. Ron has decided to expand the Workshop into two sections, simply titled Part I and Part II, to provide more information about the process of building a website to help you, our clients, approach the task with more confidence. By the end of Part II you should be ready to build and promote your website with prepared and defined content and specifications.

Part I will be offered on October 20, 2012 and will cover:

The logic behind building a website
Explaining the research you need to do before you start
Advice on how to pick a name for your site
How to get that name
How to select words that will become meta tags
Details required for the home page
Application concepts for email
How to gather info and product sales
Gimmicks to avoid and gimmicks to use
Vital pages that all sites should have
Advice on how to pull it all together – the road map

Ron will finish Part I with a “homework” assignment to help you think through the process.

Part II will be offered on November 3, 2012 and will include:

A review of materials collected for the build
How to review a web master’s portfolio
How to contract with a webmaster
Definition of costs and how/when to pay
Can you do “it yourself?”
Use your own server or have your site hosted
How to take “more hits”
Fluff (for more hits)
Review of the site prior to calling it “in production”
Marketing your site with search engines
Ad words and SEO
Promotion in print and advertising
Site reciprocation with other domains
