Interculturally Competent Approach to Providing EAP Services

What Exactly is Intercultural Competence?  In this session we will explore a set of specific competencies identified by studies as crucial in our personal effectiveness when operating across cultural differences. We will also consider specific behavioral manifestations of each competency and explore various ways in which participants might be already exhibiting these important competencies.

Adrian L. Delgado, LCSW, CEAP, CADC

The first part of the presentation, focuses on the EAP professional reviewing their results of the Intercultural Effectiveness Scale, which provides an opportunity for personal growth and understanding. The second part focuses on what the Employee Assistance Professional needs to adhere to, based on their Ethical and Cultural Competency Standards of their respective profession. Since, the EAPA Standards of Practice (2010) provides limited guidance to Employee Assistance Professionals, in regards to cultural responsive Employee Assistance Practice. Therefore, this part will utilize the NASW Code of Ethics and Cultural Competency Standards.

***All attending the workshop are expected to visit naswdc.org to review the Standards***
