BABYSITTER TRAINING
(for students age 12 and up)

Learn how to care for babies and children safely and responsibly. Includes: accident prevention, fire safety, emergencies, kids at different ages, and employer/employee responsibilities. Successful participants receive a certificate. Students must be 12 years of age within two months of the workshop. Please bring a nut free lunch and drink.

READY, SET, SOLO! 
(for students age 11 and up, along with a parent)

Together, you and your child create a plan for your child to stay at home alone safely and confidently. Discuss concerns related to your family, create guidelines, and increase communication between you and your child. Includes: home safety, family rules, emergencies, and strangers. In Manitoba, children must not be left home alone until the are 12 years of age.

BASIC STUDY SKILLS FOR STUDENTS

Students learn to be more organized and better prepared for tests and school work. Students identify their learning style (visual, auditory, tactile) and learn about strategies for each style. This program is not for students who require extra support in a learning environment.

Grades 7 to 9 - Tues, February 28

FIRST AID AND CPR FOR BABYSITTERS

Learn to save a life! First Aid is the first step in addressing the needs of someone in a medical emergency. Learn techniques to determine the course of treatment until advanced medical help arrives. Students also learn CPR, an emergency procedure that is used to restore blood flow to someone in cardiac arrest. Are you ready to take action if someone needed help? Students must be 12 years old within 2 months of the workshop date.

TRIPLE P - POSITIVE PARENTING PROGRAM
(for parents of children ages 0 to 12) 

Learn practical strategies to help confidently manage your child's behaviour, prevent problems, and build strong, healthy relationships. Triple P is a research-based parenting program with evidence to show it works. 

Dates: Mondays, February 27 to March 13 (3 weeks)

 7:00 – 9:00 pm

Fee: $35 per person or $45 per couple

TRIPLE P - TEEN
(for parents of teens ages 10 and up) 

Learn strategies to promote your teenager's development. Discuss the causes of adolescent behaviour problems, setting specific goals, managing inappropriate behaviour, and teaching emotional self-regulation. Learn how to plan around risk-taking behaviour or risky situations.

Dates: Thursdays, March 9 to April 13 (6 weeks)

TRIPLE P - STEPPING STONES
(for parents of special needs children ages 12 and under) 

Learn how to: build positive relationships with your child, teach new skills, set rules and give clear instructions, respond to misbehaviours consistently and decisively, use discipline strategies, plan to avoid or manage potentially difficult situations. For families with children who have developmental delay, sensory or physical disabilities. A diagnosis is not required to participate.

Dates: Mondays, January 9 to February 13 (6 weeks)

CIRCLE OF SECURITY - KEEPING YOUR KIDS CLOSE!
(for parents of children ages 0 to 7) 

Circle of Security is a relationship based parenting program that will help parents increase the attachment security of their children. Children who feel more secure tend to have: increased empathy, healthy self-esteem, positive relationships, and a greater ability to manage their emotions effectively.

Dates: Thursdays, April 20 to June 8 (8 weeks)

 7:00 – 9:00 pm

Fee: $85 per person or $95 per couple (limited space available)

PARENTING STRATEGIES AND ADHD
(for Parents of Children ages 6 to 12 with ADHD) 

Explore parenting strategies such as effective communication and positive discipline to strengthen your relationship with your child. Topics include: teaching new skills, defining rules, responding to challenging behaviours consistently, planning for difficult situation, and being an advocate for your child's needs. No proof of diagnosis required.

Dates: Thursdays, January 26 to February 23 (5 weeks)

ANXIETY IN CHILDREN - PRESENTED BY A.D.A.M.
(for parents) 

Join the Anxiety Disorders Association of Manitoba to explore the different aspects of childhood anxiety, including signs and symptoms, thought patterns, and different types of anxiety. Learn about ways to help a child who is struggling with anxiety.

MONEY TALKS SERIES, SESSION ONE: THE TRUTH ABOUT CREDIT

MONEY TALKS SERIES, SESSION TWO: HOW TO TALK TO YOUR KIDS ABOUT MONEY

Information and tips, worksheets, tools, and resources to help parents raise kids who are financially independent and responsible, including age appropriate teaching, contentious money issues, and more.

MONEY TALKS SERIES, SESSION THREE: GET YOUR BENEFITS!

Learn if you're eligible for provincial and regional benefits, which provide additional income - such as disability tax credits or Rent Assist benefits - contributing to better health and well-being for you and your family.

NOBODY'S PERFECT
(for parents of children ages 0 to 6) 

Meet with other parents of young children, share questions, concerns and ideas about being a parent, learn about child development, safety, health and behaviour, discuss real-life parenting situations, discover positive ways of parenting. Child minding is provided.

PARENT EDUCATOR 1 on 1 APPOINTMENTS
(for parents and caregivers) 

This individualized one on one service will provide you, in your role as parent, with an opportunity to focus on challenges you are experiencing with your child.

Fee: $45 per hour, pre-payment is necessary

Registration for Children and Youth Programs: Please register only your own child. 

REFUND POLICY: If you withdraw from the program more than seven days prior to the start date, you may receive a refund of your course fee, less a $5.00 administration fee. After this time, or once the program has started no refunds will be made. Full refunds will be issued if we cancel a course.  

PLEASE NOTE: All courses must be pre-paid. Payment must be received within 7 days of registration in order to guarantee your spot in the class. If payment has not been received, SWFIC reserves the right to cancel your registration.
