BABYSITTER TRAINING 
(for students age 12 and up)

Learn how to care for babies and children safely and responsibly. Includes: accident prevention, fire safety, emergencies, kids at different ages, and employer/employee responsibilities. Successful participants receive a certificate. Students must be 12 years of age within two months of the workshop. Please bring a nut free lunch and drink.

READY, SET, SOLO!

(for students age 11 and up, along with a parent)

Together, you and your child create a plan for your child to stay at home alone safely and confidently. Discuss concerns related to your family, create guidelines, and increase communication between you and your child. Includes: home safety, family rules, emergencies, and strangers. In Manitoba, children must not be left home alone until the are 12 years of age.

BASIC STUDY SKILLS FOR STUDENTS

Students learn to be more organized and better prepared for tests and school work. Students identify their learning style (visual, auditory, tactile) and learn about strategies for each style. This program is not for students who require extra support in a learning environment.

Grades 5 and 6 - Tues, October 17

Time: 6:00 – 8:00 pm

FIRST AID AND CPR FOR BABYSITTERS
(presented by DTermined Training) 

Learn to save a life from a certified First Aid and CPR instructor! First Aid is the first step in addressing the needs of someone in a medical emergency. Learn techniques to determine the course of treatment until advanced medical help arrives. Students also learn CPR, an emergency procedure that is used to restore blood flow to someone in cardiac arrest. Are you ready to take action if someone needed help? Students must be 12 years old within 2 months of the workshop date.

TRIPLE P - POSITIVE PARENTING PROGRAM
(for parents of children ages 0 to 12) 

Learn practical strategies to help confidently manage your child's behaviour, prevent problems, and build strong, healthy relationships. Triple P is a research-based parenting program with evidence to show it works. No childminding available.

Dates: Thursdays, September 28 to October 12 (3 weeks)
Time: 7:00 – 9:00 pm

Fee: $35 per person or $50 per couple

TRIPLE P - STEPPING STONES
(for parents of special needs children ages 12 and under) 

Learn how to: build positive relationships with your child, teach new skills, set rules and give clear instructions, respond to misbehaviours consistently and decisively, use discipline strategies, plan to avoid or manage potentially difficult situations. For families with children who have developmental delay, sensory or physical disabilities. A diagnosis is not required to participate.

Dates: Thursdays, January 11 to February 15 (6 weeks)
Time: 7:00 – 9:00 pm

Fee: $65 per person or $85 per couple (limited space available)

HOW TO TALK SO KIDS WILL LISTEN
(for parents of children ages 3 to 10) 

This 5 week program will provide parents with the skills to improve the quality of their every day relationships with their children. Topics covered include: helping children deal with their feelings, learning how to problem solve, engaging cooperation, alternatives to punishment, encouraging autonomy and more!

Dates: Mondays, October 16 to November 13
Time: 7:00 – 9:00 pm

Fee: $55 per person or $75 per couple

BLENDED FAMILIES
(for Step Parents) 

This 3 week workshop will examine the challenges of living in a step family and will provide parenting information and coping strategies.

Dates: Thursdays, November 16 to November 30 (3 weeks)
Time: 7:00 – 9:00 pm

Fee: $45 per person or $65 per couple (limited space available)

UNDERSTANDING CONFLICT SERIES:

SESSION 1 – CONFLICT AND YOUR LIFE: 
What is conflict? In this class we will define conflict, explore how you view conflict and why, and learn a few communication tips to help you reduce the conflict in your life.

SESSION 2 – CONFLICT AND YOUR FAMILY: 
Learn about why family conflict is different than other conflicts. Discuss your role in your family and explore different family situations and dynamics. Learn a few techniques to maneuver family conflict.

SESSION 3 – CONFLICT IN YOUR COMMUNITY: 
In this final part of the series, we will discuss where conflicts are occurring in the communities we belong to, and will learn about what can be done to come to a resolution.

Date: Tuesdays, November 14 to November 28 (3 weeks)
Time: 7:00 – 9:00 pm

Fee: $45.00 per person or $65 per couple

NOBODY'S PERFECT
(for parents of children ages 0 to 6) 

Meet with other parents of young children, share questions, concerns and ideas about being a parent, learn about child development, safety, health and behaviour, discuss real-life parenting situations, discover positive ways of parenting. Child minding is provided.

Dates: Thursdays, October 26 to November 30 (6 weeks)
Time: 9:15 – 11:15 am

CIRCLES FOR RECONCILIATION  - A CALL TO ACTION

What does Truth and Reconciliation mean to you, your community, your family? In this 10 week sharing circle non-Indigenous and Indigenous participants meet to discuss how to promote reconciliation, and learn how we as individuals can create more respectful relations between all Canadians. Circles are held in a safe setting and lead by a trained facilitator. The Circle at SWFIC will be held on Wednesday evenings beginning in October (request SWFIC Wed Circle in the comments on the online registration). PARENT EDUCATOR 1 on 1 APPOINTMENTS
(for parents and caregivers) 

This individualized one on one service will provide you, in your role as parent, with an opportunity to focus on challenges you are experiencing with your child.

Date: By appointment only 
Time: 1 hour appointments

Fee: $45 per hour, pre-payment is necessary

Registration for Children and Youth Programs: Please register only your own child. 

REFUND POLICY: If you withdraw from a program more than seven days prior to the start date, you may receive a refund of your course fee, less a $5.00 administration fee. After this time, or once the program has started no refunds will be made. Full refunds will be issued if we cancel a course.  

PLEASE NOTE: All courses must be pre-paid. Payment must be received within 7 days of registration in order to guarantee your spot in the class. If payment has not been received, SWFIC reserves the right to cancel your registration.
