Winter 2023 Parenting / Adult Program Schedule

PLEASE NOTE: Program description will state if it is in-person or online.

  • Online programs will be held on Zoom. A Zoom account is not needed to participate. The facilitator will send you a Zoom link via email, a couple of days prior to the course start date. 
  • Individual Rate: Registration is for one person on one device (computer, tablet or phone) 
  • Couples Rate: Up to two people can attend by sharing the screen on one device
FREE programs are available courtesy of grants, community partners and generous donors. Do not register for a free program if you are unlikely to attend. Limited spaces available and we only offer these programs to parents who are going to attend at the scheduled time. We do not provide recordings of any of our programs. 

TRIPLE P SELECT - POSITIVE PARENTING PROGRAM-ON ZOOM

 (for parents of children ages 0 to 12) 

Learn practical strategies to help confidently manage your child's behaviour, prevent problems, and build strong, healthy relationships. Triple P is a research-based parenting program with evidence to show it works.
  • Date: Mondays, Jan. 30 - Feb. 13, 2023 (3 sessions)
  • Time: 7:00 pm to 9:00 pm (on ZOOM)
  • Fee: $35.00 per person or $55.00 per couple

PRESCHOOL AND TODDLER SERIES-ON ZOOM

 (for parents of children from birth to age 5) 

These 2 hour workshops will help you navigate the common challenges parents face when parenting a toddler. Learn valuable tips, strategies and communication tools to help your toddler manage their emotions and behaviour. All sessions will be held on ZOOM. *Please feel free to register for one session or as many as you like!

All sessions are FREE, courtesy of the Ft Garry / St. Norbert Healthy Child Coalition.

RAISING A HEALTHY EATER-IN PERSON

(for parents of children ages 1 to 6) 

Led by a registered dietitian. Discuss tips and strategies that address common challenges and concerns when feeding your child. Topics include; division of responsibility, picky eating, and how to make meal time more enjoyable for everyone.
This program will be held in person, at South Winnipeg Family Information Centre at 800 Point Road.

  • Date: Wednesday, April 26 2023
  • Time: 1:30 pm to 3:30 pm (IN PERSON)
  • Fee: FREE - Funding provided by the WRHA and Manitoba Health, Seniors and Active Living

ANXIETY IN CHILDREN-ON ZOOM

 (for parents of children with anxiety*) 

Do you have a child who is anxious? Looking for ways to help? This three session workshop will explore what anxiety is, the different types of anxiety and their signs and symptoms, and strategies to support and help a child who is struggling with anxiety. *No diagnosis required.
  • Date: Thursdays, Feb. 16 to Mar. 2, 2023 (3 sessions)
  • Time: 7:00 pm to 9:00 pm (on ZOOM)
  • Fee: $35 per person and $55 per couple

DADS MATTER-ON ZOOM

(for dads, grandfathers, and caregivers) 

Join us for a live, interactive meeting on ZOOM to connect with others and discuss parenting challenges and fatherhood. There will be a focus on "Things Dads Do", and the importance of fathers in the lives of children. Learn about child development and discover ways to have fun with your child at their different ages and stages.

  • Date: Tuesdays, starting Feb. 21 to Mar. 14, 2023 (4 sessions)
  • Time: 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm (on ZOOM)
  • Fee: FREE

COMMUNICATING WITH YOUR PRETEEN-ON ZOOM

(for parents of children ages 8 and up) 

Strong communication between parents and children affects the relationships between them. Parents will learn what influences preteen and teen behaviour. Topics include; improving communication, encouraging cooperation, disciplining effectively, and building a better relationship with your preteen!

  • Date: Mondays, starting Feb. 27 - Mar. 13, 2023 (3 sessions)
  • Time: 7:00 pm - 9:00 pm (on ZOOM)
  • Fee: $45 per person or $65 per couple

CIRCLE OF SECURITY PARENTING-ON ZOOM

(for parents of children ages 0 to 12) 

This relationship-based parenting program provides ideas to encourage a stronger connection between parent and child. Learn new ways to understand, and respond to your child's needs and behaviours, that help to increase the emotional security of your children. Children who feel more secure have: increased empathy, healthy self-esteem, positive relationships, and a greater ability to manage their emotions more effectively.

Date: Thursdays, starting March 16 to May 4, 2023 (8 sessions)

Time: 7:00 pm to 9:00 pm (on ZOOM)

Fee: $20 or contact us to request a fee waiver

PLEASE NOTE: Manuals will be required for this program. Manuals can either be picked up on from our office or sent to you via courier for a fee. 

PARENT EDUCATOR 1 to 1 APPOINTMENTS-ON ZOOM

(for parents and caregivers) 

This individualized one to one service will provide you, in your role as parent, with an opportunity to focus on challenges you are experiencing with your child.

  • Date: By appointment only
  • Time: 1 hour
  • Fee: $45.00 per 1 hour appointment only

CANCELLATION POLICY & TERMS OF AGREEMENT: 

CANCELLATION POLICY FOR PAID PROGRAMS:

If you withdraw from a program more than seven days prior to the start date, you may receive a refund of your course fee, less a $5.00 administration fee. After this time, or once the program has started no refunds will be made. Full refunds will be issued if we cancel a course.

For Zoom programs:

  • Please review the Zoom privacy policy: https://zoom.us/privacy
  • I understand SWFIC will not record any sessions on ZOOM, and recording the class is also prohibited for participants.
  • Participants must attend on time or may not be admitted to the Zoom program.
  • Sharing Zoom links is strictly prohibited. All participants must register in order to attend the program.
  • SWFIC reserves the right to remove participants from a course for abusive or disruptive behaviour.
