Zada Cooper Leadership Symposium

About the Symposium

The Zada Cooper Leadership Symposium honors a true pioneer: Zada Mary Cooper.

Cooper graduated from the UI College of Pharmacy in 1897 and continued as a faculty member until retiring in 1942. She was considered a master teacher, mentor, and innovator who was inspirational to her students. She advocated for women in pharmacy, for patients, and to strengthen standards in pharmacy education. Cooper is the first-known female pharmacy faculty member in the country and is hailed as the “Grand and Glorious Lady of Pharmacy.”

While other female pharmacists and educators did exist, Cooper stood out as the one who managed to bend societal norms—despite being a woman—to become a prominent figure in the history of pharmacy. “Her influence and service [made Cooper] the most widely known and distinguished woman pharmacist in America” of her time, wrote R.A. Kuever, third dean of the UI College of Pharmacy.

The symposium will kick off with a keynote address by Domer Distinguished Visiting Lecturer Elizabeth Farrington, PharmD, FCCP, BCPS. Please join us on April 29 for this free, impactful event to:

  • Connect with thought leaders in the pharmacy profession
  • Build relationships with colleagues, leaders, and alumni
  • Hear influential leaders share their experiences and expertise
  • Take a professional headshot
