Learn to Teach Mindfulness to Youth

This training combines key techniques such as body awareness, mindful breathing, mindful listening, labeling emotions and thoughts, self-compassion, and loving kindness into practical lesson plans and daily activities for children and youth. Designed for professionals with a practice or experience in mindfulness, the workshop begins with a brief review of experiential techniques and proceeds to specific activities that can be adapted for use with elementary, middle- and high-school students, including those with special needs. Participants will practice teaching these activities to each other with supervision and guidance from instructors Dr. Rita Benn and Kristin Ervin (a certified Mindful School’s Instructor).

New this year, beginning August 8^th, is an optional half-day Pre-Institute training (1pm-5:30pm) where participants with little or no prior experience in mindfulness will be introduced to the foundational principles and beginning practices of mindfulness. It is recommended that anyone who does not have a regular practice or had formal training should register for the Pre-Institute.

On August 9th and 10th, (8:30am-5pm) the 2-day training Intensive will follow and offer you the experience and confidence to facilitate mindfulness practices with children and youth. At the end of the program, participants will be able to implement effective mindfulness activities in both the classroom and clinical settings.

What is the cost to attend?

The fee for the two day Institute (Aug 9-10) is $295 before July 8 and after this date, the fee is $345. The additional half day on August 8th is $85.00.

Is it necessary to have previous mindfulness experience to register?

We are asking those with little or no prior experience of mindfulness practice to attend our Pre-Institute Introduction to Mindfulness on August 8th from 1pm - 5:30pm. It is recommended that anyone who does not have a regular practice or had formal training should register for the Pre-Institute.

What Covid precautions must i take in order to attend?

In order to hold this event in person, we are requiring each participant to be fully vaccinated and boosted. Please bring proof of status. Masks may be required depending on CDC guidelines.

What does the registration fee include?

A continental breakfast will be provided each day, along with afternoon snacks.  You have the opportunity to order salads/sandiwches for lunch ($21 per day) when you register or bring your own. What Continuing  Education Credits are offered?.

We are planning to obtain SCECH's for educators and social work CEU's for this event. A small extra fee will be charged for those requesting them ($10.00 for Scech's and $25.00 for CEU's).

What should I bring to each session?

Participants are advised to bring a yoga mat and water bottle, as well as their own lunch if they prefer to eat on site.

We will be located in the B Hallway in the lunchroom facing 12 Mile.

Can I register for more than one person?

No, there are a set of questions that each person is asked to fill out individually.

Group Discounts, Scholarships or Student Rates 

We will have a very small number of scholarships available. If you would like to receive a scholarship, please let us know and provide reasons for the request.

What is the refund policy?

A $45 processing fee is taken for any refund requests made prior to July 1, 2022. After July 1, no refunds will be issued.
