Over the past two decades, the sustainability movement has grown to become an essential aspect of the building sector, affecting every facet of development. Yet, misperceptions around the concept have limited the industry’s thinking. This talk will present some of the prevailing myths about sustainable design and show examples of practical solutions that can add value and enhance the user experience in unexpected ways.

Stacy Cannon: Ms. Cannon is a Senior Associate and Studio Director in Gensler’s San Diego office who has been recognized as one of the top professionals in the industry by ENR California and San Diego Business Journal. As a leader in the local market Stacy works with corporate and civic clients, developers, and brokers to support projects ranging from small interior work to large build-to-suit ground up headquarter buildings. Her varied experience in both architecture and interior design allows Stacy to seamlessly addresses the varied needs of her clients. She has led numerous important projects for Gensler and has been instrumental in the design of new spaces for clients such as the Alexandria Real Estate Equities, CBRE, adidas, Booking.com, Kilroy, UC San Diego, Booz Allen & Hamilton, LPL Financial, Microsoft, Teradata, and ViaSat to name a few. In addition to co-leading a studio of 60+ employees Stacy gives back to her local community by volunteering for the CREW and Border View YMCA.
Lance Hosey: Lance is a nationally acclaimed architect, designer, and sustainability expert who has spent his career focusing on ways way to improve the impact of design socially, economically, and environmentally. With over 25 years of experience designing a variety of innovative projects, Lance is driven by a passion for merging design excellence with building performance. Lance’s project highlights include the LEED Platinum and net-positive-energy “Sustainability Base” at NASA Ames Research Center and Oberlin College’s Lewis Center, the world’s first certified net-zero-energy building. A recognized leader and advocate for sustainable design, Lance has authored two books and hundreds of articles on design for leading publications, including the New York Times, the Washington Post, and the Huffington Post.
