Current Global Exclusive Webinar: Are Your Marketing Communications Accessible?

WEDNESDAY, OCTOBER 27, 2021 • 12:00PM - 1:00PM ET

Every day content is published that is inaccessible to many, and marketing campaigns are launched that aren’t designed to be inclusive of people with sight, hearing, speech and cognitive disabilities. Join this webinar to learn why and how Accessible by Design – an initiative Fast Company named a 2021 World Changing Idea – is challenging organizations to commit to making content that’s accessible to all.

Speakers:

  • Rebecca Roussell, Senior Vice President, DEI Communications at Current Global
  • Sena Pottackal, Junior Associate, DEI and Corporate at Current Global

Reminder: Disability:IN Webinars are a benefit available only to Disability:IN corporate partners. We encourage invitations to be forwarded to internal colleagues, however colleagues from other businesses must reach out to Disability:IN at mailto:info@disabilityin.org to request access.

Black woman with short hair and black dress crosses her arms and smiles

Rebecca is a hybrid marketer, culture storyteller and strategist. She has 15 years of experience in marketing communications, which has afforded her an opportunity to travel the country and create tons of experiences for brands and people. She has a passion for diversity equity and inclusion. And has launched integrated campaigns, created inclusive work cultures and been a thought leader for DEI throughout her career. Prior to joining Current, she served as Deputy Director of Diversity and Inclusion and was the acting Deputy Director for the Business Enterprise Program, with the Illinois Department of Central Management Services (CMS). She joined CMS in the Summer of 2020, in July. Rebecca is responsible for building equity-based inclusion strategies that enrich the diversity of Illinois’ workforce and open access to state employment. She is also focused on increasing the access to contracting opportunities for businesses owned and operated by minorities, women, persons with disabilities and veterans.

Prior to joining CMS, Rebecca honed her professional experience in diversity and inclusion while at Nielsen, a global market research company. She led the production of Nielsen’s award-winning Diverse Intelligence Series, a collection of industry market research papers on the consumer habits of African American, Hispanic/Latinx and Asian American consumers. Throughout her time at Nielsen, Rebecca was also responsible for helping build a strong and external consumer awareness about the company by promoting Nielsen through community outreach; specifically, to multicultural consumers and community leaders. She managed public relations, thought leadership, created the company’s social media presence for diverse consumer audiences, led experiential engagement and internal communications in the office of Nielsen’s Chief Diversity Officer.

After her seven years at Nielsen, Rebecca led the experiential arm of a boutique public relations and events agency, The Spears Group,  in her hometown of New Orleans, where she was responsible for revenue, sponsorships and strategic partnerships as well as the marketing and promotion of large national and regional entertainment events.

Rebecca has been listed as one of Diversity MBA Magazine’s Top 100 Under 50 Emerging Leaders, The Chicago Defender’s ‘Women of Excellence’ coveted list and Dillard University’s Top 40 Under 40 Alumni. She is also a member of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc., a global civic service and advocacy organization with more than 300,000 collegiate and alumni members.

Rebecca obtained a Master’s degree in Integrated Marketing Communications from Roosevelt University in Chicago. She also received her bachelor’s degree, Cum Laude, in Mass Communications from Dillard University, an HBCU in her hometown of New Orleans.

Sena Pottackal

Sena Pottackal joins Current Global as a junior associate in client services, DEI and corporate communications. She is excited to support Accessible by Design, the first of its kind commitment to make all communications crafted for our clients and our organization accessible to people of all abilities. Pottackal identifies as a fierce female of color with multiple disabilities, including blindness and vertigo-inducing migraines. Before joining Current Global, she interned at Weber Shandwick and NBC Universal; freelanced for Atelier Ace through the New York University (NYU) Real World Course; and worked for three years at PRaction, Rowan University’s student run public relations (PR) firm. In 2020, Pottackal graduated with a Master of Science in PR and Corporate Communications from the NYU School of Professional Studies, where she delivered its Graduate Convocation Student Speech; received its Leadership and Service Excellence Award; and completed academic research in disability-inclusive communications for her thesis.

Throughout her academic career, Pottackal passionately used strategic communications to advocate for the creation and expansion of resources and opportunities for people with disabilities. Her activism included serving on the NYU Provost’s Working Group on disability, Inclusion, and Accessibility; leading as a NYU Student Senator at-Large for Students with Disabilities; and lobbying for disability rights on Capitol Hill with the National Federation of the Blind. In 2019, Pottackal provided thought leadership about disability inclusion by presenting at the NYU United Arab Emirates Education Ambassador Conference and the PR Council’s Critical Issues of the Modern Workforce Forum, receiving mentions in PR Week, the Holmes Report and O’Dwyer’s. Her activism and academic accomplishments earned her a 2019 New York Women in Communications Interpublic Group (IPG) Scholarship and Internship at Weber Shandwick, becoming the first blind intern to work at our sister agency. Pottackal is thrilled to rejoin the IPG Family.
