Keynote: LNAs Practicing What We Preach—Just for the Health of It!

Presented by Gina E. McGuire, RN, MA, Motivational Speaker, Nurse and LNA Program Coordinator from the Lakes Region.

As LNAs, we spend our days answering our calling to help those in need who are unable to care for themselves. In this interactive presentation, you will discover how to reconnect with your own physical, mental, and spiritual well-being. Gina will demonstrate how you can stimulate your body’s endorphin response to improve vitality and avoid burn-out. You will also participate in fun and simple movements suitable for all participants that boost your endorphin levels while offering countless health benefits. This presentation also includes group relaxation techniques with affirmations incorporated to comfort and soothe our frazzled nervous systems. Gina will include a brief mindful meditation.

You will need to choose one of the four breakout sessions below.

Please be sure to review your options before registering on the next page.

Available Breakout Sessions (Choose One)

Session 1:

Combatting Compassion Fatigue with Mindfulness and Meditation

Presented by Gina E. McGuire, RN, MA, Motivational Speaker, Nurse and LNA Program Coordinator, from the Lakes Region.

In this breakout session, Gina will dive deeper into mindfulness and meditation helping you to discover easy and effective ways to heal the overtaxed nervous system. Whether you are experiencing excessive worry, fear, depression, or anxiety, these simple complementary therapies have been shown to effectively heal emotional injuries, calm neural activity, and help with mood regulation. The techniques you’ll learn help to lower the levels of the stress hormones in the bloodstream, boost the immune system, and assist the body in cleansing itself of chemical toxins while eliciting the endorphin response to naturally alleviate pain and induce euphoria.

Session 2: Oxygen Needs of Covid-19 Patients in the Long-Term Care Setting - How LNAs Can Help

Presented by Tracy Brazier, RRT, Respiratory Therapist, with experience in both acute care and home health settings.

In this session Tracy will explain normal and altered respiratory functions including some of the basics of pulmonary anatomy and physiology. She will cover the roles of LNAs in assisting with assessments and diagnostic test, basic care of the respiratory patient, and respiratory equipment. Finally, she will review how the LNAs scope of practice relates to respiratory care delivery in the state of NH.

Session 3: You’ve heard of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE)…How about Personal Protective Nutrition (PPN)?

Presented by Denise Poudrier Normandin, MA, RD, LD Dietitian and Health Educator & Founder of Enlighten Nutrition & Wellness in the Lakes Region with over two decades of experience in clinical outpatient nutrition and public health.

Good nutrition is like our personal protective equipment for shining as caregivers! During this session, Denise will talk about simple ways LNAs can make healthy food choices that empower them to regain their health and live life to the fullest including being energized as a caregiver. “Let food be thy medicine & medicine be thy food”  - Hippocrates

Session 4: Who’s the Boss?

Presented by Sherri Conde, Corporate Director of Healthcare with Reinhart Foodservice, a subsidiary of Performance Food Group. Sherri has been in the healthcare food industry for over 17 years.

For this presentation Sherri will emphasize the resident as the boss and the most important one to consider in nursing home care. Every home has a story to tell; within that story every department is a puzzle piece. When you put the pieces together, they paint the picture. What story does your facility want to convey to the resident, the resident’s family and ultimately to the community? You want to be the talk of the town and a positive part in your boss' day.  Remember this is the last earthly home for most residents. Help them to make great memories!
