Calling all middle school students: Are you looking for safe and exciting ways to connect with other students this summer? Join North Country Health Consortium’s (NCHC) virtual summer Health Explorers Camp!
We will be meeting by ZOOM to look at different ways to be our healthiest selves. The six sessions will cover:
Partnered with local health experts, each session campers will explore the science behind one of these topics and engage in cool interactive activities. Campers will each receive a kit of materials for these activities in advance of the virtual camp.
Through small group breakouts, campers will also have the opportunity to connect with area high school and college student mentors further along the path in their academics and career goals.
This virtual summer camp experience is open to students who have completed grades 5th - 8th.

Discover Your Nutrition Superpowers
Nutrition and health can be confusing! There always seems to be mixed messages about different foods and health. Join Ashley Wentworth, a Registered Dietitian, to discover and explore your nutrition superpowers and use them to spot fake news messages about nutrition and bodies (no matter where they come from!).
Dental Health an epic adventure
Did you know that the way you take care of your teeth and gums impacts your overall health? And chewing gum is good for you? Come join our very own dental hygienist and public health profession, Annette Cole, to learn more about people who work in the dental field. You get to make your very own toothpaste!
Let’s Move: keeping your heart healthy
Staying active and learning fun fitness activities to do regularly as a young person prevents cardiovascular (heart) problems in later adulthood. Come join Physical Education Specialist, Jon Fouch, for a fun interactive session on keeping our bodies active.
Hello Brains: exploring emotional wellness
Youth and families have been hit hard by the pandemic and the changes related to isolation surrounding it. Join us for a session on learning strategies for emotional and mind health with a local school wellness coordinator.
Keeping Clear of Alcohol and Drugs
Did you know that one in four young people are at risk for addiction? Our culture pushes youth to try substances through very subtle, subliminal media messages that can be confusing to teens who are influencedby these tactics. Be aware; there is a very scary and dark side to addiction that can happen to anyone! During this session, substance misuse prevention specialists Mariah Coulstring and Greg Williams will guide students through interactive activities providing education, resources, and strategies for youth to keep focused and away from the dark side of substances.
Emergency Preparedness: preparing for the unexpected
Emergencies can happen at any time. The last year of the pandemic has taught us that it’s important to have an emergency plan with your family. Join our local EMT and Public Health Coordinator, Zina Schmidt, to learn about common disasters in our region. In small groups you will be creating a communication emergency plan for yourself and your family!12REGISTRATION
