WHAT

The Trauma-Responsive Early Childhood Intervention (TRECI) training prepares early childhood-focused agency staff working with parents and caregivers of young children to better appreciate the large proportion of children they work with that have been exposed to Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACEs)* and to recognize the signs of traumatic exposure in this young population. Participants will learn to adopt “trauma-responsive” approaches in their work to more aptly meet the needs of the children and families with whom they work.

*An alarming number of young children in the United States experience toxic stress and trauma. Seminal research conducted by Anda and Felitti (1998) proved the high prevalence of “Adverse Childhood Experiences” or ACEs among the U.S. population and demonstrated the relationship of childhood abuse and household dysfunction to many of the leading causes of death in adults. Sadly, young children (those under 8 years of age) are the most vulnerable to ACEs, and we see the impacts of such exposure in developmental delays, emotional and behavioral problems, and issues in relationships.

 The Trauma-Responsive Early Childhood Intervention training is covered over three sessions, and provides two options for training dates. We have completed the March 22 - April 12 session, but you can still sign up for this course meeting on April 24, May 8, and May 22.

REQUIREMENTS

Attendance at all three consecutive sessions on the class dates you select is required to receive credit for completion of this training.
