Inspiring emergent curriculum is achieved through ongoing insightful observation of the children we work with. In this workshop we will discuss strategies for effectively interpreting our observations of the children we work with and creating good questions asked at appropriate moments to refine our understanding of the children’s interests. We will explore questions such as: How can we create a web of children’s interests that can connect all domains of development? Why is it important to offer a concept that runs through each domain and how do we design curriculum experiences which will do this?

Objectives:

  • Examine different modalities of observation.
  • Experience creating and using “good questions” to learn more.
  • Discuss curriculum design and delivery in the process of webbing concepts across the domain spectrum.
  • Work on experiential activities in small groups.

*Suitable for adult instructors/administrators, novice, intermediate and experienced early learning child care professionals working with children of any age from infant/toddler, preschool to school age children, including children with extra support needs.
