AIA CLEVELAND WOMEN IN ARCHITECTURE PRESENTS:

FILM SCREENING: MAKING SPACE | MOCA

In honor of Women’s History Month, the highly-anticipated documentary film, Making Space: 5 Women Changing the Face of Architecture (2014), will screen at the iconic Museum of Contemporary Art (designed by one of the profiled architects, Farshid Moussavi) in Uptown Cleveland. Our special guest introducing the film is Sarah Rafson, an architecture writer and researcher based in New York, and a co-editor of sub_teXXt, an online journal by, for, and about women in architecture, associated with ArchiteXX. The exciting event will preface with drinks and refreshments in MOCA’s exhibit space.

March 2016 | Presented by the Women in Architecture (WIA) Committee.

This event is worth 2 CEUs, and objectives include:

1.     Attendees will learn about "women in architecture" in a broad sense through an introduction of the topic. Attendees will become familiar with key ideas, movements and resources such as Equity by Design, to empower participants to continue the conversation.

2.     Attendees will visualize the iconic designs of a new generation of female architects in the film MAKING SPACE, featuring Annabelle Selldorf of New York, Farshid Moussavi of London, Odile Decq of Paris, Marianne McKenna of Toronto, and Kathryn Gustafson of Seattle, Washington DC, and London.

3.     Participants understand the personal journeys, creative processes and choices the featured female architects have made Participants will explore how these choices / experiences have influenced both their work /life in the 21st century.

4.     After viewing the film, attendees will discuss with experts the existing landscape of women in the profession at all scales. Attendees will consider examples/stories of the featured women as well as first-hand examples of women in architecture (and its impact on both men and women in the field).
