Speakers on the [Virtual] Square is organized as a panel discussion highlighting young and emerging
professionals. Due to the ongoing Covid-19 pandemic, the country has been plunged into a recession
and almost every industry has been affected in some capacity. The discussion will be framed around
the topic “Pivot”. The panelists and moderator have all either taken an “alternative” career path within
the architectural industry or have left it altogether. Panelists and moderator will examine and
discuss their chosen career paths and how a foundation of an architectural education prepared
them for their current positions.

Allison Hennie
Allison Hennie, AIA, NCARB, MA, has a passion for people, places and the arts. Hennie currently serves as the City Architect and public art coordinator for the City of Lakewood, helping facilitate diverse solutions with a positive social impact. A Cleveland native, she has lived in two countries and 12 cities.
Luke Visnic
Formerly of Perspectus Architecture and Bialosky Architects, Luke switched gears by co-starting a Cleveland-based food start-up, Cleveland Kitchen, with his two brother in laws. He’s used his designed-based training to bring fresh perspective on a stale product, sauerkraut, their initial line of products. Now in over 9,000 locations in all 50 states, he’s working on streamlining operations, expanding into new products (salad dressings and kimchi) and expanding their production facility to satisfy their long term needs.
Malaz Elgemiabby
Malaz Elgemiabby is the founding Principal of ELMALAZ, a Design studio in Cleveland, Ohio. As a designer, photographer, and professor, her work creatively utilizes unique skills and tools carefully cultivated through international and multicultural architectural experiences to align design with community needs. Malaz’s recently completed the design of Riverview Welcome Center, part of the $40million Irishtown Bend development.
She is also an advocate for community engagement and was a speaker at Women in Architecture conference Leadership Summit 2019, and appointed as the Designer in Residence for Cleveland Foundation Creative Fusion 2019. She is also the recipient of Minority Art and Culture Fund grant on two consecutive years on community public art projects and is selected as one of Cleveland’s Most Interesting People 2020.
Malaz Elgemiabby is from Sudan, and holds MFA from Virginia Commonwealth University, and a Bachelor of Interior Architecture and Design from London Metropolitan University, United Kingdom.
