COTE: Developing Feedback Display Dashboards to Engage, Motivate, and Empower Resilience at Scales from Buildings to Whole Communities

This course will explore the application of "Environmental Dashboard" (ED) communication technology in buildings and whole communities. Extensive research demonstrates that exposure to ED significantly enhances systems thinking and pro-environmental and pro-community social norms and behaviors. Experiences in Oberlin and Cleveland will be explored.

Building Dashboard” dynamically displays real-time resource consumption in individual buildings to promote resource conservation; “Citywide Dashboard” animates whole-community resource flows and environmental conditions; “Community Voices” combines images and text to celebrate thought and action that advance social, ecological and economic dimensions of sustainability.

• Attendees will learn about the practical benefits of resource use reduction.
• Attendees will learn about the infrastructure, equipment, software, devices, and date required to implement feedback monitoring.
• Attendees will learn how resource monitoring will be manifested in the future.
