Virtual Lunch Meeting - 12:00 - 1:30 p.m. EDT

Meeting Sponsor: CT Chapter of the ASCE Transportation & Development Institute

Please join CSCE at a virtual lunch meeting on Tuesday, May 10, 2022. Kevin O'Connor, P.E., and Josh Manns, P.E., both with Parsons, will give a presentation about, Implementing Digital Twins for Design Review.

Attendees may earn 1 New York State Professional Development Hour (NYS PDH) at this event.

iTwin Design Review is an exciting tool allowing designers, reviewers and stakeholders to collaborate directly from their design models. Connecticut DOT(CTDOT) and Parsons/Bentley teamed up to facilitate CTDOT’s first iTwin on the CTDOT I-91/I-691/Route 15 Improvement Project. The effort consists of 3D modeling, training CTDOT staff, and item types. iTwin allows CTDOT to efficiently review design and make better design decisions. Come hear our lessons learned to help you save time when your organization is ready to implement.

Parsons uses state-of-the-art 3D, 4D, and 5D (xD) modeling techniques to develop intelligent models that help the design team create accurate quantities that reduce both bid risk and contingency. Applied to both design-bid-build and design-build projects, these techniques involve collaboration using Digital Twins between all disciplines of the design and construction team during the planning, execution, and construction phases. Through this interaction, detailed xD models are developed to include elements required for construction as well as downstream phases such as operations and maintenance. The end result is a safe, efficient, integrated, and cost-effective solution.

Speakers:

Kevin O'Connor, P.E., xD Automated Design Practice Lead, Parsons

Kevin O’Connor is a registered professional civil engineer, specializing in 3D Design. He is a 1992 graduate of the University of Central Florida and manages Parsons’ xD Automated Design services group, tasked with providing technical support and training for three-dimensional engineering design software as well as Digital Twin Services. Through this support role, he has become involved in key design aspects of several major transportation design projects across the country. Kevin’s tasks also include, project setup, coordination of project staff and subconsultants, as well as CADD coordination.

Josh Manns, P.E., xD Automated Design Principal Civil Engineer, Parsons

Josh Manns is a registered professional civil engineer, specializing in 3D Design and Digital Twins. He graduated from the University of Texas at Arlington in 2011. and is in Parsons’ xD Automated Design services group, tasked with providing technical support and training for three-dimensional engineering design software and Digital Twins. Through this support role, he has become involved in key design aspects of several major transportation design projects across the country.
