What to Expect During the First Year Transition to Private Equity Ownership
Summary & Learning Objectives
As an increasing number of family-owned and closely held businesses seek private equity partners to facilitate ownership transitions, management and employees are often uncertain as to what to expect. In this session, Jay and Damon will provide some practical guidance on what can be expected in the first year under private equity ownership along with some recent case studies. Learning objectives include: (1) how the private equity group will work with management to establish and achieve objectives; (2) different approaches to achieving equity value creation; and (3) capital structure implications.
Senior Managing Director | Mason Wells
BiographyAs a Senior Managing Director of Mason Wells Buyout Funds, Mr. Radtke is primarily responsible for supporting the investment activities of those funds. In this capacity, Mr. Radtke is responsible for initiating investment opportunities, negotiating transactions, supervising due diligence, serving on the Board of Directors of portfolio companies, and working with portfolio company management teams. Mr. Radtke is a Co-Chairman of the Investment Committee of Mason Wells Buyout Fund IV.
Mr. Radtke has over 20 years of private equity investing experience in middle market companies. Prior to joining Mason Wells in 2006, Mr. Radtke worked for Cornerstone Equity Investors, LLC in New York for five years, where he was responsible for the origination, analysis, due diligence and execution of control-oriented investments in middle market companies in the business services and specialty manufacturing industries. Before Cornerstone Equity Investors, Mr. Radtke worked in Lehman Brothers' New York office for three years, where he was an Investment Banking Analyst in the real estate and mergers and acquisitions groups.
Damon Thome
Director | Mason Wells
As a Director of Mason Wells Buyout Funds, Mr. Thome is primarily responsible for supporting the funds' investment activities. In this capacity, Mr. Thome is responsible for initiating investment opportunities, conducting due diligence, negotiating debt financings, serving on the Board of Directors of portfolio companies, and working with portfolio company management teams.
Prior to joining Mason Wells in 2012, Mr. Thome worked as an Investment Banking Analyst at Piper Jaffray in Minneapolis where he was involved in numerous mergers & acquisitions, advisory and capital markets transactions in the industrial sector.
Mr. Thome is a member of the Board of Directors of Qualus Power Services Corp. and Schoeneck Containers, Inc. Mr. Thome received a Master of Business Administration degree from Northwestern University’s Kellogg School of Management and Bachelor of Business Administration degrees with Distinction in Finance and Accounting from the University of Wisconsin - Madison.
