Contemplative Practice and Wisdom Christianity: Series 2016

This series consists of workshops presenting the renewal of contemplative spiritual practices and the recovery of a way of faith rooted in inward and outward transformation.

February 20, 2016 is the first in the series:

Sing a New and Ancient Song: Sacred Chant & the Emergent Psalter

Led by Isaac Everett and Steven Bonsey

Both within the church and much more widely outside the church, there is an increasing interest in spiritual practices with ancient roots and a means of dimensions of depth, calm and connectedness to modern life.  Many look to Eastern traditions as the modern Western church has lost track of its own ancient Wisdom practices.  Today we have the opportunity to recover the transformative power of these practices for the good of ourselves, the church and the world.

This workshop is for people engaged  or interested in contemplative spiritual practices and/or liturgical renewal; those interested in ancient-modern or emergent church.  No prior experience or musical knowledge required.

The day will offer a mix of presentation and participation:  presentations on the history and significance of the Psalms and of sacred chant in the Christian tradition; participation in 'emergent psalter,' Taize chant and contemporary Wisdom chant, suitable for use in congregations, small groups or personal practice.

The workshop is led by Isaac Everett and Steve Bonsey.  Isaac is Minister for Liturgical Arts with The Crossing, Boston, and author of An Emergent Psalter.  Steven Bonsey is Advisor for Contemplative Practice with the Leadership Development Initiative (LDI) and author of "The Shy Person's Guide to Evangelism."
