About the Retreat: Offered to those who are in one of the 12-Step programs of recovery, this retreat offers a contemplative practice for the 11th step: "Sought through prayer and meditation to improve our conscious contact with God." Centering Prayer is a simple method of prayer rooted in an ancient practice that opens us to God's presence and divine healing.
You'll learn the four steps of Centering Prayer, practice and learn its significance in your daily life and recovery program. There will be time for reflection, sharing, silence, solitude and 12-Step meetings. Those who have attended an Introductory Centering Prayer Workshop will have the option to attend an alternate track if registration indicates one is needed.
Fr. Thomas Keating once wrote, "Silence is God's first language. Everything else is a poor translation." The practice of Centering Prayer and the spiritual, historical and psychological basis of it, are described and elaborated in several of Thomas Keating's works, including "Divine Therapy and Addiction" (Co-authored by Thomas S.) In a letter published in a Grapevine 1953 article, "Emotional Sobriety", Bill W writes, "I have been given a quiet place in bright sunshine".
