It’s Not Just Prostitution: What You Need to Know About Human Trafficking 

Recent events have caused our community to raise many questions concerning the impact of prostitution and human trafficking. As an organization dedicated to supporting women and providing information on women’s issues, The Women’s Fund of the Shasta Regional Community Foundation is providing a free public forum to enable the community to gain greater insight and awareness on this issue. The educational forum – "It's Not Just Prostitution: What You Need to Know about Human Trafficking" – will be held at 12:00 PM on February 23 at the Sequoia Middle School McLaughlin Auditorium, 1805 Sequoia Street.  Advance registration is required. 

Awareness and education are prevention tools against human trafficking, according to the National Center for Missing & Exploited Children. This forum is designed to help people recognize the red flags of child sex trafficking, the complexity of healing, and the importance of trauma-informed therapy. Presenter Deena Graves has trained more than 20,000 people, including the FBI, Homeland Security, the international airport police, and the attorney general/U.S. attorney staff. The forum will also include participation of our local DA Crime Victims Assistance Center, the Domestic Violence Multidisciplinary Team, and the Juvenile Justice Rehabilitation Center. 

The Women’s Fund mobilizes the power of women through collective philanthropy using a strategy of education, grantmaking and endowment building to create a better future for women and their families in the Redding area. Since 2009, we have made it our purpose to achieve each of the following: Build a vibrant and engaged membership committed to improving women’s lives and children’s futures; inspire women to make a difference through collective giving; raise community awareness of issues affecting women and families; improve long-term opportunities for women and families through annual grant making; and grow a permanent endowment to support grant making and community forums.
