Summer 2017
June 24, July 22, and August 26, 2017
We are pleased to announce the Outdoor Classroom Project Specialist Level I Training Series will be offered, for the first time, in San Luis Obispo County. This inspiring and educational training series will provide early childhood professionals a unique opportunity to acquire enhanced skills for cultivating and sustaining the Outdoor Classroom at their centers. The Specialist Level I Training consists of three full day workshops on Saturdays. As part of the training experience, participants will have the opportunity to explore the grounds and see the application of Outdoor Classroom philosophy in the play yard design at three Outdoor Classroom Demonstration Site Centers in San Luis Obispo County. The first two workshops will be held at United Methodist Children's Center in San Luis Obispo. The third workshop will be held at the Orfalea Family and ASI Children's Center at Cal Poly San Luis Obispo. Both centers are Outdoor Classroom Demonstration Site Centers.
Initiated in 2003 by the Child Educational Center, Caltech/JPL Community in Southern California with a grant from First 5 L.A., the Outdoor Classroom Project has worked with hundreds of centers and thousands of teachers. Currently there are over fifty Outdoor Classroom Project Demonstration and Recognized centers in Southern California and two Demonstration Sites in Northern California.
