To qualify as a Demonstration or Recognized Site for the Outdoor Classroom Project®, each center must have a teacher who has completed the Outdoor Classroom Project Specialist Level I Training Series.
The Outdoor Classroom Project® is an initiative of the Child Educational Center.
The philosophy of the Outdoor Classroom
is that all children need and benefit from more time outdoors and that full development and integration of outdoor and indoor programs creates the optimal learning and growing environment for
young children.

Level II Training Series: Continuing Workshops
for Outdoor Classroom Specialists with Level I Completion
"Growing the Outdoor Classroom"
September 16, October 14, and November 18, 2017
We are pleased to announce the next Outdoor Classroom Project Specialist Level II Training Series in Northern California. This training is for those who have completed the Outdoor Classroom Project Specialist Level I Training Series. You may also participate if you have missed one workshop of the Level I Training Series.
PARTICIPANTS FROM CENTERS THAT ARE NOT YET OUTDOOR CLASSROOM PROJECT DEMONSTRATION OR RECOGNIZED SITES
One primary focus of the training is to assist participants whose centers are ready, to achieve an established Outdoor Classroom Project standard of their program being a "Demonstration" or "Recognized" site. This focus works equally well for participants whose centers are not currently ready, but could be in the future. Participants from such developing programs will select one or more changes or objectives to accomplish over the three-month period of the workshop series. Emphasis will be placed on making progress toward or achieving Outdoor Classroom Project "Demonstration Site" or "Recognized Site" status by the conclusion of the three month period of the training.
PARTICIPANTS FROM ESTABLISHED OUTDOOR CLASSROOM PROJECT DEMONSTRATION AND RECOGNIZED SITES
For those participants whose centers have already achieved that status, the training supports them in strengthening their center's status, including educating newly hired staff and newly enrolled parent's engagement with their center's established Outdoor Classroom.
Level II content includes an examination of quality elements of the Outdoor Classroom and keys to Outdoor Classroom development, learning and practicing communication skills, research findings, performing strategic evaluation, facilitating teacher engagement, and understanding gardens and gardening as a central Outdoor Classroom activity.
Level II is designed to support participants in becoming better change agents and in facilitating change in their own programs.
Completion of Level II is a prerequisite for taking Level III, which is tentatively scheduled for the summer of 2018. Participants completing Level III will be eligible to enroll in the first advanced Level IV training which is envisioned for the 2018-19 year as part of expanding the consulting force of the Outdoor Classroom Project.
