The Role of the DT in IL Early Intervention

What exactly is a “Developmental Therapist” and what is their role in Early Intervention?  Early Intervention is a unique field; different from almost any other setting or model of service delivery you may have experienced. As a new practitioner, it can be overwhelming to wade through policies, procedures, the steps needed to become credentialed and how to orient yourself to the system as a whole. At the heart of the matter though, is how well you understand and feel prepared to begin your work with children and families! This three day linked series of face to face workshops and assigned homework is designed to prepare new DTs as they enter the early intervention workforce. Join us for three days of discussion, networking, and problem solving that will utilize reflective videos, group activities and hands on practice with strategies you can use in your day to day work! This series would also be appropriate for DTs who have been in the field less than 5 years. Participants must attend all three sessions of this linked series to receive attendance credit. No partial credit will be awarded. The Illinois Early Intervention Training Program has approved this event for a total of 15 hours of EI credential credit. 2 hours in the area of assessment, 1 hour in the area of atypical development, 4 hours in the area of intervention, 1 in the area of typical development, and 7 hours in the area of working with families.

This series of workshops is presented by premier trainer in the field of Early Intervention, Amy Cocorikis.

Amy Cocorikis Bio:

Amy Cocorikis has been lucky enough to spend her career learning from infants and toddlers with special needs and the families who love them. She has also been fortunate to have worked with and learned from the many talented providers of all disciplines who shared their time and gifts with their team members. Her dedication to the teaming process, desire to grow and keep current in the field, and commitment to learning from and teaching others through professional development and training continues to fuel her passion for early intervention.
