Join us for another one of our Wonderful Outings in the Wilderness (WOW!) as we celebrate Healthy Aging month in the great American outdoors.
This Cochran Mills Nature hiking trail is a winding and scenic trail that winds through forest, rock and water landscapes. It mostly easy trail runs parallel to Bear Creek, up to the Little Bear Creek Falls. Bring your lunch. We will have lunch at the water falls.
The Cochran Mills Nature Center charges $3.00 per person. It is actually a privately owned nonprofit organization. We will also have an opportunity to see their wildlife exhibits that features a number of animals - captive, wild, native and exotic. Exhibits also include birds of prey, Egyptian fruit bats, and one of the largest reptile collections in the state of Georgia. FYI...all resident birds have been permanently injured or orphaned and are under the care of certified rehabilitators. and Don't forget, you can go to your local library, use your library card and 'check out,' as you would a book, a Georgia State Parks, Parking Pass. Sometimes they go pretty fast, so you may want to check up front and reserve it for pick-up.
Don't forget the Leave No Trace principles to which we adhere... what you carry in, you carry out, with the exception of taking your memories of the adventure, your new friendships, and of course, any photos you may take.
Remember... we car pool and each rider is asked to donate $7 - $10 toward gas.
Feel free to contact me by telephone at 678.231.4973 should you have any questions.
There is no fee to participate on our hikes, however, we do accept donations to help us offset expenses and enable us to continue to offer the hikes to anyone who has a desire to join us....we love what we do! Right now al expenses are out-of-pocket. We prepare the necessary paperwork, scout every trail, provide water and snacks as needed, and have loaner backpacks and walking sticks. If you enjoy yourself and would like to see it continue, please consider making a donation. Thanks!
